Hampton Inn Richmond

They had a great looking breakfast spread when we checked, with omelets and two waffle choices, vanilla and red velvet, though we didn't eat any. Check-in was really friendly, and our room was clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated. I also liked having streaming services.

We had a great stay and will definitely come back. Just a heads up about the bottled water: at check-in I was asked if I wanted some, and the two bottles came in cute little bags. I only noticed on the receipt that they cost $13. It might be clearer to ask whether guests want to add the cost of two bottles to their room.

The hotel was quiet, and the room was very clean with a comfortable bed and brand-new bathroom fixtures. Renovations are happening one floor at a time, but they didn't get in the way. We had no trouble with the reservation or check-in, and the desk staff were genuinely friendly. Breakfast was fine, and getting here from the interstate was easy.

We left in the end. After nearly two hours of being sent between the Hampton and Home2, we got to the Quality Inn and had the kids and bags inside our room in under 10 minutes. We'd called the Hampton around midnight while we were still an hour away, said we had three children, and were told there was availability, so we gave our information and headed over. At the desk, the woman spent an hour searching and then said they had no reservation, suggesting we try their sister hotel across the street. Home2 had nothing either. They tried calling the Hampton employee we'd just spoken with, several times, but got no answer, and Home2 did what they could to help. We went back to make sure we hadn't been charged because my Hilton app showed a charge. The same woman was asleep at the front desk. After we woke her and asked about the charge, she finally found our booking and said she'd been looking under the wrong hotel's reservations. Mistakes happen, but someone working alone at the counter should know how to handle customers and reservations.
