We were relieved they didn’t charge us after we explained that the rooms clearly weren’t non-smoking and were making it hard for us to breathe. As soon as we pulled up, we knew we wouldn’t stay. The neighborhood felt dirty, unsafe, and scary, so we went in to collect the rest of our family and find another hotel. The old elevator bounced as it moved, and the halls smelled overpoweringly of smoke and mildew. The drop-ceiling tiles were dingy. On our way out, we heard a guest call down about noise in the next room. The clerk told them to hang up and call 911 if it was that bad. When the manager heard about it, the response was that they hadn’t had that many noise complaints yet that night. We were glad to leave.

After leaving a day early, we got a very rude response from the manager. I’d never had a worse hotel stay. We were in town for race weekend to celebrate our fifth anniversary and arrived late, tired from driving all day. The parking garage felt frightening, though the staff at check-in were friendly. The elevator was rickety and smelled awful. Our first room was disgusting: fleas, ash and an old cigarette burn, dirty tissue beside the bed, falling ceiling tiles, exposed pipes, and sheets that didn’t look clean. They upgraded us to a suite, which looked better at first, but then we saw cockroaches, blood spatter on the wall, a kicked-in footboard, a broken bathroom sink, more fallen ceiling tiles, and exposed piping. The air conditioning was another problem. Sleep in your car if this is your last resort.

If you mainly care about the room, this place may be fine. The rooms and lobby have been finished after a recent renovation, but the rest of the hotel is rough. From the street it looked closed, with a banner on the front awning saying Quality Inn, one part of it ripped. The elevators are extremely old and missing basic safety features, including a working phone for emergencies. The shower got hot, though it took a few minutes for the weak pressure to build. There were plenty of outlets and a handy Cat5 connection for wired internet. Smoking rooms are on the fifth floor. My diamond status wasn’t acknowledged at check-in. Parking is in a covered lot behind the building, and I didn’t feel my car was safe there.

The rooms were large and clean, and the staff were friendly and took care of our needs. We were in town for a wedding, and the military rate was good value, though I don’t know what other rates were available. The hotel shows its age and could use an upgrade. The lobby gives a better impression than the hallways, where expectations drop. The mattress wasn’t great, and the lighting was inadequate in some areas. There was no lamp by the chair, so reading meant sitting at the desk or in bed. I’d recommend it, but next time I’d compare other hotels nearby. Reviews can help, but they aren’t all gospel. Comfort, cleanliness, facilities, value, and wi-fi were good; staff and service were very good.

The bed was comfortable and the staff were nice, but the rest of the place put me off. The elevator didn’t work properly, and the pool area was hardly inviting. It sits on a roof above the parking area, overlooking boarded-up windows and a tar-covered roof. The parking garage looks like something out of a horror movie. I won’t stay here again.
