This older motel is quiet, clean, and free of bugs, and the location works well for me. The rooms are roomy, the beds and pillows are comfortable, and the sheets and blankets feel softer than at other hotels or motels. Prices are decent and there’s no deposit. The staff are really nice, I’ve never had any trouble here, and it’s my usual place when I’m in the area.

I needed somewhere affordable for three nights in town over Derby weekend in mid-May. The big chain hotels were over $200 a night, and this was the only affordable place I could find. It’s a low-cost hotel with just the basics, and my room was clean. It’s dated and could use fresh paint, but I had no problems with the room or staff. I’m surprised when people review it as though it were the Hilton. I just needed a place to sleep.

I went to this MOTEL to look at a room for a friend. The remodeled room seemed decent at first, but the one shown to me smelled strongly of smoke even though it was supposed to be non-smoking. I thought my friend might be able to manage that. The owner quoted $90 plus a $40 early check-in fee. I said I’d seen an online deal for three nights at around $120-140 and would rather book that way. Until then, our conversation had been civil. After I mentioned the price, his manner changed. He called me “unruly,” abruptly said no rooms were available despite just showing me one, and made clear he didn’t like guests mentioning third-party booking sites. It felt like he was angry that he couldn’t overcharge me. I stayed calm and respectful throughout. As a Black woman, I felt disrespected and targeted, and it was hard not to think his hostility came from frustration about the price and racial bias. I’d initially asked to pay cash because the room wasn’t for me, and he made a comment implying I couldn’t pay by card. That assumption felt offensive and stereotypical. The OWNER was the person I dealt with, and I confirmed with him that he was the actual OWNER. The area also raised safety concerns for me: homeless people gathered nearby, and the room doors didn’t seem to have adequate locks. Similar or better hotels around there, including Hampton Inn, Comfort Inn, and Holiday Inn, offer cleaner, safer surroundings for about $120 a night. Paying that much for this MOTEL would have seemed foolish. It might work as a last resort for someone in urgent need, especially a male traveler, but I wouldn’t stay there myself. The online rate may look fair, but the interaction, safety concerns, and overall experience were enough to make me warn others. I hope this helps someone decide.

It’s a good deal, and it’s cool here. I came back for a week. The pool is groovy, though it’s closed for winter. The family running the place are great, and the washer and dryer each cost $1.50.

What a joke of a roach motel. The beds had gross stains, there were no shower curtains, the AC barely worked, and the internet wasn’t worth trying to connect to. They’d left a microwave on the bed, too. Then the owner told me my babies couldn’t swim, even though I’d paid. Go somewhere else.
