The Royal Inn

The place seemed clean and the price was low, but it fell short of what I expected. The rooms felt very old and plain, and were noisy. The air conditioner and decor looked untouched since 1978. The free breakfast was just a few slices of bread for toasting, a couple of boxes of single-serve cereal, and milk or OJ in the fridge. I nearly missed it when I came in. When I asked the man at the counter where it was, he growled, “it's right there!” The woman who checked me in was nice, while the guy at checkout seemed irritated to deal with anyone. By the lobby, it could be a decent place, but the lack of attention to room quality will keep me from returning.

I've stayed here twice while visiting Elk County and other local spots. It's a decent, no-frills place to use as a home base.

A dirty, noisy place with the most dated decor I can imagine. The other guests were loud and trashy. In the cramped shower, the ceiling tiles were so wet they were crumbling, and I couldn't tell what was on them. The ancient air conditioner struggled to cool the room, even on its highest setting.

For a straightforward place to sleep and get a good meal with friendly staff, this works well. I travel a lot and have stayed in much nicer places, but they cost far more. You can't beat the price here. The rooms are very old-fashioned, but they were incredibly clean, including all the bathroom nooks and crannies. There was a nice mini fridge with a freezer, air conditioning, a small coffee maker, and plenty of outlets for electronics. The door's safety latch had been broken off. As a woman traveling alone, I would have preferred to have one. The restaurant was exceptional, and the servers were incredibly nice. I got the all-you-can-eat crab legs for $39, and they were delicious. If you're after elegance and comfort, this isn't the place.
