Red Roof Inn Roanoke Rapids

The breakfast was just cereal and bread, not great. In the non-smoking room, the blankets had cigarette burns, the duvet was dirty, and a full-size bed had only two pillows. The bath linens looked dingy and were so thin you could see through them.

My husband and I slept very well here, and the pillows were comfortable. Staff did a great job at check-in and checkout, and the hotel has made some good changes to improve the stay. I also had a payment issue, but after I complained and shared the information, they reviewed it and resolved it quickly. Thank you for handling it in a timely way.

The room needs a lot of work. The curtain didn't close all the way, so the bright parking lot lit up the room all night. The bed springs were worn out, noisy whenever you moved, and uncomfortable. The sheets were clean, but the top bedspread had dirty marks. The mini fridge and freezer worked, though the microwave door was rusted inside and it couldn't heat a cup of water even after 3.5 minutes. The fiberglass tub and shower had been painted, and the paint was peeling. The hot water and pressure were good. Then I picked up a folded towel and found bad stains that looked like either blood or diarrhea. It was very disturbing even though the towels felt and smelled laundered. I'd probably not stay here again. There were some good things: no homeless or drugged-out people hanging around outside, which was a pleasant change from many I-95 motels. The parking lot was large and well lit, and the staff were pleasant enough. I liked that it was pet friendly with no pet fees. They'd just put down new hallway carpet, repainted, and fitted all doors with new key-card locks, which impressed us.

I paid for a smoking king room, which had a refrigerator, microwave, and TV. There was no coffee pot because apparently that's an "upgrade" you'd have to pay extra for. The bathroom dispensers were there for hand soap, lotion, body wash, and shampoo/conditioner, but they were empty. I'm guessing those were upgrades too. Terrible overnight stay, and I'm seriously thinking about canceling my next reservation and finding somewhere else.
