Kahler Inn and Suites - Mayo Clinic Area

The main problem continued after we checked out. Within a couple of hours I realized I'd left personal belongings in the room, so I called right away while I was still nearby. They told me to fill in a website form and said someone would call. I gave them my number and submitted the form because I really needed my things. When nobody called, I went over in person. The receptionist said she had to speak to the manager, and I waited in the lobby about 15 minutes. When I checked again, she asked for my number once more, but no manager came out. Two days went by without a response. On my last day in Rochester I called again, asked to retrieve my items, and left my number. I never got a callback. My son had Mayo Clinic appointments, and the connection to the subway meant we could get to the hospital without going out into the cold. The location was genuinely excellent and especially convenient during a stressful time. Sadly, that's where the positives stopped. Room 734 had a strong, unpleasant smell. The floors were filthy: after a bathroom trip in black socks, they were covered in animal fur and dirt. There were visible water stains and what looked like mold on the ceiling. The odor got so unbearable that when I needed to extend our time in Rochester, I chose another hotel. The poor communication about my belongings was incredibly disappointing. For a hotel serving families through difficult times, I expected much better service. A convenient location doesn't make up for unhealthy room conditions and no follow-through.

The free breakfast wasn't great, but it was a welcome extra. My room was comfortable and clean. The place doesn't feel new, though it's still in decent shape. A few things were missing, like a coffee cup and hand soap, but they were easy to get.

The location near Mayo Clinic was the one thing this place had going for it. My first room key wouldn't work, and after hauling my things to the front desk twice, they finally switched my room. A couple nights later, that key quit too. The rooms and the loud, old AC/heater are dated, the carpets are filthy, and the wallpaper is bubbling. Everything feels dingy, and parking is awful. I won't stay here again.

We found it really handy for our Mayo appointments, and the staff were consistently pleasant and ready to help. The place isn't fancy, but it's clean and has what you need. Breakfast is free with lots of choices, and the restaurant on site serves delicious food. The halls were quiet too, with no loud running around.
