Holiday Inn Express Rolling Meadows - Schaumburg Area by IHG

The breakfast room was already a mess on our first morning. The trash was overflowing, and I saw guests pushing it down themselves. No one was wiping the tables, so even an hour into service it was hard to find a clean place to sit. The staff seemed to be trying, but the hotel is badly understaffed. Our room also wasn't ready properly. We had just one bath towel, an empty tissue box, and an iron with no ironing board. I had to go to the front desk to get more towels. Towels were also left on the floor by the ice and water station, as shown in image.png. The curtains in the room were damaged (image_2.png), and the pool was covered and in disrepair (image_5.png). The property is right beside an abandoned building that appears to have "residents" living in and around it (image_3.png and image_4.png). My recent stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Rolling Meadows, Illinois, was far below expectations. I've stayed at many Holiday Inn Express locations, and this was easily the worst we've experienced. We won't stay here again, and I wouldn't recommend it.

This place is badly outdated, and my room was disgustingly dirty. The mirrors and windows were smeared, the carpet by the balcony door was soaking wet, and there was no chair at the desk. I also found pubic hairs all over the shower. I expect a lot more from an IHG property. Does the housekeeping manager not realize that filthy microfiber towels shouldn't be used on glass and mirrors?

The pool was closed when we arrived, even though the website gave no indication of that. We had booked a nonrefundable stay because we were excited to use the outdoor pool, and the hotel won't refund us. Advertising an outdoor pool and then refusing a refund when it's unavailable feels false. Juan's customer service was horrible. Holiday Inn, you can do better. I'll report this to the Better Business Bureau for advertising an open outdoor pool to attract guests when it isn't open, and then not refunding them.

We felt very safe in the area, and the staff were friendly and quick to help. They brought fresh towels and bedding each day. The rooms were clean, and the shower was really nice. Breakfast and coffee were just okay, but my family and I had a great experience overall.
