The driveway was rough on my car when it was loaded with luggage, and I bottomed out both on arrival and again at checkout. Inside, though, Claremont House is lovely, with beautiful upkeep, details, and a stairway that show the home's age. The rooms felt airy and welcoming. At night we occasionally heard a train or semi go by, but it wasn't really a problem. Chris left our keys and room details in an envelope on the property for our late, after-midnight arrival. Breakfast was great: Chris accommodated my diet, and my girlfriend loved having different breakfasts each day, especially the pancakes. He also suggested places to visit and eat. It's about five minutes from downtown Rome, and we had a welcoming stay. We'd definitely recommend it and come back.

We were only passing through Rome for one night and hadn't expected the town to have so much history. The house was like sleeping in a museum, and the little cards around it explained its history, so there was plenty to enjoy indoors. The people running it felt like another family, and breakfast was one of the best we've had in our two weeks in the States. We also met more of the family over breakfast, and they were wonderful. Fantastic experience.

The bathrooms are big, and there were some pretty crazy spiders. The owner seemed a little odd at first, all veins and no muscles, and moved around like an electric vehicle docking to charge itself. He has a nice ‘001’ tattoo and doesn't seem to like music. The only negative was his alarm clock, which is too loud and seems stuck on four chimes. Still, it was a nice stay.

For my first bed and breakfast, this was a place I'd happily try again. The house is beautiful, the breakfast was enjoyable, and the innkeepers were gracious and very hospitable. We stayed for Veteran's day with my husband and another couple. Our room was large and comfortable, though the bathroom was very small, with little room around the shower and toilet.

Our first B&B turned out to be wonderful, from the chickens in the yard to the delicious breakfast. The house has a charming carriage house replica, and Chris was truly amiable. That omelet was so good. It beats a motel hands down.
