The Rome Motel

There was no one at check-in, so we waited for the owner to arrive after a motel resident contacted her. The condition of the place was horrendous. I had brought a sheet and pillows to cover the bed, and thank goodness, because otherwise we'd have slept in the car or kept driving until we found somewhere else. I can't understand how a motel in this state is allowed to operate, or how its owner can feel proud of it. It showed no consideration for people paying to stay there. The other Relax Inn reviews aren't any better. Come on, people, do better.

The location was convenient and the outside looked fine, but the room was awful. The carpet felt damp and sticky, the place was dingy and badly needed paint, and the tub had brown spots with bits peeling off when I touched it. One pillowcase had blood on it, another had brown stains, and the air conditioner rattled before finally quitting in the middle of the hot night. I can't imagine paying $102 for a room like that. We'd biked 350 miles, arrived late, and already had a reservation. The man at the desk spoke no English and couldn't find our name on the reservation sheet. I usually don't leave one-star reviews, but this was disgusting. Quite an experience. Don't stay here.

We left after about 10 minutes because we didn't feel safe. The rooms weren't clean, and the hot water didn't work in the second one. In the first room, the air conditioning didn't work and the room was dirty. They moved us, but that room was disgusting too. The most disgusting place I've ever been in my life. I wouldn't recommend anyone stay here.

The price online was listed as $85 a night, but when I arrived they said it was $115. The bedding had cigarette burns, the bathroom door was punched in, and the microwave was filthy. The shower barely dribbled water, and the room looked and smelled like it hadn't been cleaned in years. I expected little for $15 a night, but at least a clean towel and a working shower. Then I felt bites and saw three little critters on me. That was the last straw. I left my belongings and ran for the parking lot. Since I'd gone into the room and let the door shut behind me, they wouldn't refund my money. I couldn't even stand to wait inside for my ride, so I waited outside in the cold. I wasn't there for two full hours, and couldn't take it for more than 20 minutes. How is this place even open?
