La Quinta Inn Austin Round Rock North

The mattress was the deal breaker. My wife checked its tag after we spent the night fighting the dip in the middle of the bed, and it said it was made in June 2009. A 17-year-old hotel mattress. We woke up sore. We usually stay just one night while traveling, sleep, and go, so I’m willing to overlook a lot, but the bed made sleeping almost impossible. La Quinta, the main thing guests need is a place to rest, and this one failed by at least a decade. Check-in was a little after 8 on Saturday. Nobody was at the desk, though a young woman called over from the dining area that someone would be back in a few minutes. I assumed it was a bathroom break and let it go. The room had other problems too: the lights beside the bed didn’t work, the wall outlet came loose when we unplugged our charger, there were ceiling cracks and holes under the floor laminate on the third floor, and the toilet seat was loose. We don’t usually shower at hotels, and the tub here reminded me why. The pictures speak for themselves. I won’t stay at another La Quinta.

It was frustrating from check-in through checkout. My room wasn’t ready when I arrived at 4:00, and I was told to come back. The hall carpet was nasty, the room was dirty, and the broken safety lock made it seem like nothing was being cleaned or maintained. The only person available at the desk didn’t speak or seem to understand English, so I couldn’t explain the problems successfully.

I should’ve read the reviews before booking. I’ve never had a bad stay at a La Quinta before this one, which has 2.9 stars on TripAdvisor. It was cool when we checked in, so we didn’t need AC. But when the temperature dropped into the 30s, I woke at 3:30 a.m. freezing and the heater wouldn’t work. I tried calling the office from the room phone because my own phone was dead and I’d left its charger at home, but that phone didn’t work either. There was so much condensation on the windows and AC unit that water dripped onto the floor. I slipped and wiped out when I got up in the morning. Worst La Quinta ever. Never again, even if the room were free.

Tianna, Andrea, and Daniel jumped in to fix things whenever I had an issue. Debra is delightful, always friendly and smiling, and the atmosphere here is lovely. Karina and the housekeepers always make sure I have clean towels and bedding. I’ve had an amazing experience here!
