Rodeway Inn

I’m not staying there myself, but my friend is, and I visit and use the Wi-Fi. The rooms are basic but adequate. When there’s a real issue, the maintenance man usually responds pretty quickly.

The bed was clean and comfortable, and the small room had a fridge that was already running when we arrived. The continental breakfast was decent, with oatmeal, danishes and coffee. But I wouldn’t recommend the place. The bathroom was tiny, and the little spot for toiletries wasn’t clean. The pillows felt like couch cushions, and I couldn’t see why they gave us three. I didn’t try the shower. The room was supposedly non-smoking, but it had clearly been a smoking room before. The window was open when we got there because the room smelled stuffy. The furniture under the TV also served as a bathroom shelf, so we covered it with a towel to be safe. It was extremely inexpensive, though, which might suit someone on a tight budget.

The location was handy, with restaurants, a pharmacy and a gas station just a few minutes away by car. There was also a small outdoor pool, but it was too cold for us to use it. The room itself was very old and had a lot of bugs. The bathroom door didn’t lock, and the toilet wouldn’t flush unless I opened the tank and shut the valve each time. The microwave didn’t work at first, but the manager fixed it the next day after we reported it. There was an iron but no ironing board; my friend in the adjoining room had the board but no iron, so we swapped. For the money, it wasn’t worth it.

The room and bathroom were quite clean, and the appliances worked well enough, but the stay was still miserable. The wall heater and AC blew straight at the bed, made a lot of noise, and kept cutting in and out. The baseboard heat didn’t work, and the room stayed chilly, so we could barely sleep. We’d had the same problem at this motel once before, but I’d forgotten. The bathroom shade was tattered, and there was no TV channel list. Breakfast was very limited, with no eggs or waffles and no honey for tea. The low price wasn’t worth another stay. I won’t be back.
