Best Western Sandman Hotel

Getting in early was a real help: the front desk let us check in about 90 minutes ahead on our first night. The location is handy for the river, freeways, downtown, Old Sac, the SMUD science center, and midtown. We didn't have bed bugs, and there were enough soft pillows, but that was about it for comfort. The room was cold the first night. I went to the office the next evening for another blanket, but the front desk person had stepped away with a sign saying he'd be right back. I waited half an hour and nobody came. The bed had no comforter, just two top sheets and a thin hospital-style fleece blanket with a melted hole and somebody else's hairball on it. There were problems everywhere: the air unit had no knobs, and one bedside lamp's knobs were missing too, so it wouldn't turn on. Mold showed above the tub, the tub leaked loudly, water from the sink sprayed onto the counter, and the bathroom door stuck. Outlets, switches, and floors were dirty. There were several small repair issues, including a hole in the wall under the desk. The trail gate was welded shut, so the advertised river trail access wasn't actually available. Breakfast required tickets, which seemed odd for a Best Western. The wall mural was meant to be a close-up of a wagon wheel, but looked to us like a peeled eyeball and tendons. My partner found it really unsettling, though I didn't mind it as much. This was a strange, uncomfortable two-night stay, more like a motel than a hotel. It fell well short of the cleanliness and comfort I expect from a Best Western.

A horrible choice, even for a concert stay. The rooms weren't clean, the furniture was beat up, and there were streaks on the walls. You could see outside through gaps in the doors. It was noisy at night, and homeless people in the parking lot yelled at me. Don't stay here.

The area around the hotel wasn't the nicest, but I really enjoyed my stay. The staff were extremely kind, breakfast was hot, and the hotel had everything I needed. Old Town Sacramento is only a mile and a half away.

I just want to go home. I checked in around 5 and the room was dark. There was a leak and I slipped in a puddle, and now my butt is really sore. I switched rooms, but the AC didn't work there. The microwave locks up when there's food in it, so I have to unplug it after each use.
