The spacious room and the kind women who checked me in made for a great hostel stay. The place has the feel of an old Victorian bed and breakfast, and it's only a 5-10 minute walk from the Amtrak station. I'd stay again if I'm back in the area.

Room 23 worked well for a friend and me while we were in town for a conference downtown. The building has lovely craftsmanship, and I liked the Gold Rush theme, which was spooky without being too haunted. Staff were kind, clear, and helpful, and the amenities were clean. Other guests followed the guidelines and rules. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to respect the rules and enjoy the atmosphere and the location near the Convention Center.

For work, I need a downtown place to stay on weekdays, and I've booked the private rooms here several times. It's a beautiful vintage hostel on a safe block. My room has always been clean and comfortable, and the shared spaces don't feel crowded. Guests are generally quiet and respectful. The kitchen is well equipped; I just wish there were pitchers of filtered water.

I paid $42 a night for an all-women's bunk in a 10-bed room and shared a bathroom off the hall. At that price, I can't complain, though I would've liked curtains or retractable shades on the bunks for a bit of privacy while sleeping. The room was very spacious and had lockers for valuables. The bathroom took a long walk down and across the hall, but it was clean, roomy, bright, and stocked with bath gel, mats, and towels. I had the room to myself the first night, then shared it with two roommates the next. I stayed two nights while traveling to Los Angeles by Amtrak. The hostel is within walking distance of the station, and downtown puts restaurants, Target, a museum, coffee shops, and public transit nearby. The restored Victorian mansion has high ceilings and open rooms, plus a shared kitchen, big dining area, and two seating areas. The employees were friendly and responsive.

I booked only an hour before arriving, needing a quick rest on a cross-country trip. Shayla welcomed me, took my details, and explained the space and its rules. She was professional and polite whenever I needed anything. The hostel is in a beautiful historic building with lovely woodwork, distinctive art, and a roomy cooking area. It's just four blocks from the Amtrak station, and I felt safe as a traveler. Sacramento was only a stop on my itinerary, but if it had been more of a destination, I would've happily stayed for several days.
