I visited a family member here last night, but we stayed by my car the whole time because I didn’t feel safe leaving it alone. The filth was unlike anything I’ve seen, and the smell of drugs being used was intense. We were approached by sex workers and drug dealers several times while standing there. I wouldn’t trust many of the people I saw. I checked this place on seven online booking sites. The reviews all sounded alike, as did the owner or management’s lame responses. Today I met with a couple of friends in local government and showed them printed reviews and guest photos. They were as appalled as I was. Criminal and health-code complaints and violations were filed with the proper agencies today. I was told they’ll soon serve the owners paperwork, giving them 60 days to meet code and other requirements to stay open, or risk the county or state taking over and renovating it into housing for the homeless, as has happened to other Sacramento area hotels that failed to comply and operate properly.
The room was untidy, and there was hair in the shower. I couldn’t sleep at all with people walking the halls all night. On top of that, the remote had no batteries. It was already a ridiculous price.
The evening, night, and weekend staff are absolutely wonderful, but I would not recommend a long-term stay here. Day staff treat long-term residents like crap. They refuse to provide toilet paper, clean linens, towels, or ice, and turn away visitors without telling you. They also stop store and food deliveries from reaching your room, so you have to collect them from the office. We went months without hot water. There’s a no-visitors policy that apparently now applies to long-term residents too. When staff know you’re out, they let themselves into your room and snoop around. Day staff are rude and lie. Maintenance requests are ignored as long as possible, and getting help means reminding them ten times. This is a crappy facility run by unprofessional people. I’d never recommend it to anyone. You’d be better off at a shelter or sleeping in your car. I recommend the Sure Stay on Alhambra and 30th instead. They have breakfast, respectful staff around the clock, and an actual security guard.
I can’t believe how different the place was from the ad. We had to clean the walls, toilet, and tub ourselves. The tub had cigarette burns, there was a big rat trap in the kitchen area, and both sinks leaked badly. I sanitized everything and even hooked up the sinks myself. They should have paid me. The first room they gave us had its bed taken apart and pushed against the wall. Check-in took forever, though the front desk person was nice and talked my ear off. The worst part was that Booking wouldn’t refund my money, so I had to spend the whole night there.
I brought the FamBam, my wife, 8-year-old son, and 12-year-old daughter, here for Memorial Day weekend because we needed to go to Cal Expo for the horse races. Last year I’d read reviews and figured I wouldn’t stay here, but they must have been lies. It was the best motel I’ve stayed at all year. They charged only 61 dollars a day for a two-room suite with brand-new seats, towels, and furniture. The room had been remodeled, and it was peaceful, with security gates and armed guards. I loved it.
