Residence Inn by Marriott Sacramento Downtown at Capitol Park

The suite upgrade was nice, and the room was clean and worked well for a work trip. I had booked a studio with two queen beds because of work per diem requirements. The room was quite dim at night, with only a small desk lamp, so I worked near the window while using a MiFi for secure internet. Breakfast is provided and has a good selection, though I'm not much of a breakfast person. I ate one morning and mostly just had coffee. The coffee was stronger than at most places, but not a big improvement over other Marriotts I've stayed at. The first night was a little noisy in the hallway, and the second got worse. Around 1 a.m., people were slamming doors, screaming, and partying in a room, so I called the front desk. Someone went up, but it didn't fix things, and about 10 months later the same noise was back. The walls are thin, so you hear hallway conversations and every door opening and closing. I'd stay here again for work, but not for a personal trip.

The hotel was really nice and clean, and I enjoyed my stay. The only snag was that they charged my personal card instead of my work card, which I had brought for incidentals. I got a text from my card company after check-in about a charge for the stay. I called the front desk and the woman resolved it right away, but the funds weren't returned to my card immediately. Aside from that, it was a great stay, and the staff were great too.

Jeff at the front desk helped us get a late checkout, which gave us time to get ready for a wedding without rushing. We were really grateful for his friendly help. The rooms were very nice and newly updated, and the breakfast buffet was plentiful. Free parking in such a central location is hard to beat. My only quibble is the cleaning solution has a strong smell. I'm sensitive to scents, so I'd suggest a scent-free cleaner. We had a fantastic overnight stay and will be back.

The suite was huge, with a kitchenette, living area, full-size refrigerator, and a see-through double fireplace facing the bedroom. The cozy bedroom looked out over downtown, and the bathroom was a nice size. My room on the top floor was clean and quiet. Right downstairs is the fabulous Juju bar, and Capitol Garage is just a one-minute walk across the street. I missed the complimentary breakfast, so I got a vegetarian breakfast burrito there instead. It's close to all the fun downtown places I love. Can't believe I hadn't stayed here before. From now on, I'll check for availability here first when booking around midtown or downtown Sacramento. Yay!
