Crystal Inn Hotel & Suites Salt Lake City

The first time my husband and I stayed here, two years ago, it was a good experience. Our visit over Memorial Day weekend was different, and the noise and room smell put me off returning, especially with pets. The room smelled intensely of Axe body spray, and the people above us rolled their luggage around noisily all night. The front desk also seemed to make up charges. I told them before check-in that I had two quiet, clean, well-behaved dogs, and they said it would be $100 per pet per night, which would have made a one-night stay in a $200 room cost $400. I refused, and they bargained it down to $100 total for the night. I wouldn’t recommend this location to anyone with pets.

The only bright spot was the friendly, accommodating front desk and kitchen staff. Otherwise, I wouldn’t recommend this place or stay again. It badly needs updating: the rooms and hallways were dark, old, and dirty looking. Window screens were falling apart, the bedding and shower were stained, and the room didn’t look vacuumed in any corner for months, maybe years. There’s nowhere to put toiletries in the bathroom except taking them into the shower. The sinks are in the bedroom, so if someone’s sleeping you have to turn on the light to brush your teeth or put on makeup. The gym was filthy, with dried sweat on the treadmill, dust and dirt clumps on the floor, and rusty towel racks. Disgusting.

The room was spacious, breakfast was decent, and the staff were extremely nice and helpful, especially when I had trouble with Expedia. I was in town for a conference and chose this place because it was affordable compared with hotels near the convention center. Walking there took about 15 to 20 minutes, which was the only drawback. I’m from the South and was surprised to see grits on the breakfast buffet. I’d still book here again and recommend it to anyone looking for a nice, affordable stay.

The staff were friendly, and when I accidentally left my hearing aid charger in the room, they found it and mailed it to me right away. We also used the airport shuttle, which was convenient. Great place to stay, with large, clean rooms. Highly recommend it.
