Guest reviews

The staff were all wonderful, and it’s unfair that they have to deal with failures in the hotel’s basic service. Management seems to spend plenty on heating pools that are barely used, while neglecting guests’ essential needs. Our room’s thermostat was broken, a problem documented in other Google reviews and acknowledged by the front desk. In the middle of the night, the temperature rose to 73, which isn’t good for sleeping. We spent an hour trying to fix it before realizing it was broken. The desk gave us batteries that didn’t help, then a fan, which is no substitute for working HVAC. It seems likely the next guest will be put in the same room with the same faulty thermostat. I haven’t run into this at other hotels on our road trips. Sleep is a basic hotel service, and management has clearly decided some percentage of guests just won’t get it.
The staff were especially kind. They offered help when it was useful and seemed to know when guests preferred not to interact. The hotel was clean and spacious, though nothing about it really blows the doors off. If I’m back in SLC, I’ll check availability here first.
We’ve stayed here three times because we like it. The suites are clean, quiet, and in a great location, with a large, nice bathroom and a comfy sofa. Each room has a small, quirky TV, which is nice. The kitchen has a full-sized refrigerator, dishwasher, stove, and microwave, but no oven. The staff are very nice too. One small annoyance: the bedroom lamps have power receptacles in their bases, but they never work reliably. We end up unplugging them, moving the nightstand, and plugging into the wall. Not a big deal.
Because of a family emergency, I couldn’t arrive for the first night of my non-refundable two-night New Year’s Eve booking. I called to say I wasn’t asking for a refund, just asking them to hold my room until I arrived the next day. The employee said, “I’ll make a note so you’re not marked as a no-show.” But when I got there, a rude employee said the reservation was marked as a no-show and the room had been given away. He initially acted as if nothing could be done. After about 10 minutes, he said the Marriott next door had rooms and told me to run, since I’d get a ticket if I stayed in their garage over 15 minutes without validation. He wouldn’t validate my car. Then he tried to separate me from my group, saying, “Leave them here, follow me, we’ll run to the Marriott.” That made me extremely uncomfortable. I insisted we wait literally 10 seconds for my group to get their luggage and come along. He walked with us halfway to the Marriott, then returned to the Hyatt. The Hyatt employee said they’d texted Marriott about what happened, but the message we saw had hardly any detail. Marriott then tried to charge me for the night, even though Hyatt had said I’d already paid and wouldn’t have to pay twice because they caused the problem. Thankfully, Courtney at the Marriott was incredibly kind and saved the day. One of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. Hyatt will steal your money and book your room for someone else to double their profits. Do not stay at the Hyatt!
The staff were great, though the front desk seemed a bit understaffed. Otherwise, it’s a very average standard hotel, about what you’d expect for the price. The walls are thin enough that I could hear people talking next door. The rooms look run down, with wear showing on the furniture and walls, and the overhead lobby light flickers every five minutes.
