I’ve stayed in plenty of hostels over my 66 years, and this was the best one I’ve had the privilege to visit. It was my second stay at the SLC Hostel. I had a quick overnight in Salt Lake City, arriving by plane Wednesday night from Indianapolis and leaving Thursday morning by van for Butte, Montana. I needed somewhere comfortable and suited to my needs, and this worked perfectly. My basic first-floor room had everything I needed. The bathroom was across the hall, with several showers and bathrooms farther down. The whole place was very clean. Arthur, Agata, and Prabhat most graciously answered my questions via Air BnB. It’s a leisurely five-minute walk to the 900 S Station on the TRAX Green Line, which runs directly to and from SLC International Airport for only $2.50 each way. A 7-11 open 24/7 is less than a two-minute walk away. Please remember this is a hostel, not a hotel. Hostels have bathrooms and showers down the hall and a kitchen guests can use, and their rooms are considerably smaller than hotel rooms. You save a considerable amount of $$'s staying at a hostel instead of a hotel. The choice is yours, but I wanted to give a realistic view of the SLC Hostel. I used words like privilege, graciously, and leisurely because they describe how well the SLC Hostel treated me during my stay on 12/03/25. I’ll be back in Salt Lake City in May of 2026, and this is where I’ll stay again.✌️

I had a really good stay and would happily come back. The hostel was quiet, clean, and well organized, with clear check-in directions. I felt safe the whole time, and the location puts you within walking distance of a lot. They even provided a towel and shampoo. My only minor gripes were the squeaky bed and that I never worked out how to adjust the room temperature.

For a quick weekend, this place worked well for me and a friend. The beds and bathrooms were clean and comfortable, parking was free and easy, and the location is excellent. The kitchen was questionable, there were ants in our room, and the tap water had a smell. It’s basic, but for the price it avoids feeling outright bad. I’d use it for a couple of nights, though probably not a longer stay.

It was a rough night. Someone in the room next door was on a loud phone call to India late at night, and I had to ask twice for quiet. Later, people were laughing and making noise in the echoing kitchen. At first I thought the sound was coming from the shower room. There weren’t any signs asking guests to be considerate, and I saw no management around to discourage that behavior. The bathrooms were clean, though I don’t know why I was given only half a washcloth. I still have one more night here.

The private room was a big part of what made this feel like the kind of hostel stay I want. The place is kept clean, and the unusual decor gives you something to look at and makes you wonder where the other travelers came from. I’ve stayed in several hostels before without always having a good experience, but I could tell as soon as I arrived that I’d enjoy this one.
