We stayed in the Secret Garden room. The front desk was friendly, the breakfast was good quality and better than I expected, and the room was big with a beautiful theme and a nice jetted tub. It was relaxing and peaceful overall. The beds were both firm and squeaky. During a day when most rooms were open for cleaning, I tried the beds in three other rooms, including the Enchanted Forest diamond suite, and they felt just as firm. The room could use a deeper clean too. The tub, shower, sinks, bed, and tables were clean, but the tiles and carpet felt dirty even though they'd been vacuumed, and the lights over the bed were dusty. I don't know how often they deep clean, if they do at all, but this room is due for one and needs a new bed. We probably won't stay at this location again because the beds weren't comfortable.
The staff were great and the food was pretty decent. I enjoyed getting away from the kids and stepping into a different world with the room's theme, even if there are some things guests should keep in mind. Breakfast was better than dessert. The cheesecake sauce tasted like Hershey's syrup and didn't really fit the quality of the dessert. Getting into the South Temple location is difficult. You can only turn right into the parking lot and right back out, so the city should add a limited turn lane. The inn isn't ADA friendly: there are steps at both the front and back, and most rooms aren't on the main floor. Room 112, for example, is on the third floor. I understand the charm of an old home converted to an inn, but with my knees I won't return. Our room seemed designed for thinner couples. On one side, there wasn't room to get between the tree and the wall; on the other, you push the window blinds open. I also wished the lights could be brighter. The dimmer gives some control, but it still wasn't enough. The shower pipe runs along the exterior wall, and its hot and cold settings respond much more slowly than the tub, lagging by minutes. There was only one set of towels, so if you're here for fun and make a mess, get extras beforehand or bring your own. Maybe they should bring in a roofer and replace the single-pane windows.
We booked the Phantom of the Opera room, which was cozy and quaint, and the breakfast was fresh, hot, and served in good portions. It's the best breakfast we've had at any of the few different anniversary inns we've visited. This cute little bed and breakfast was a nice anniversary trip with my wife. I made the mistake of looking up the original owner, Emanuel Kahn, but luckily didn't see him looking over us as we slept. Haha.
The Hayloft is one of the smallest rooms, but it was super cute and fun, like staying in an attic with all the amenities and rustic, cute decor. The homemade breakfast was even better than last time, with a few more options. They also had free bottled water and homemade cookies. The bed wasn't as comfortable, but it was a nice stay overall. We got a great deal through their Black Friday half-off sale, two nights for just under $300.
We were very frustrated that we couldn't use our gift card, and it makes me wary of returning to Anniversary Inn. Before booking, I called to ask how to use it and was told to present it at check-in. The day before our stay, around 3pm, we got a text saying there would be no night agent and giving check-in instructions. I replied to ask how to handle the gift card, but got no answer, so we planned to sort it out in the morning. We arrived around 7:00 and an actual front desk person was there. She was very helpful, even though apparently she was working on her day off. She said we'd need to speak with the supervisor in the morning about the gift card. We enjoyed the night, but the room was abnormally warm. At breakfast, our clearly marked order was missing one order of bacon and one order of sausage. No one answered when we called the front desk, and there was no way to leave a message. When we checked out, we were told the gift card couldn't be used because it had to be presented at check-in, which we had done.
