Quality Inn Downtown - near Market Square

The bed was comfortable, the front desk staff were friendly, and the hotel is close to the Riverwalk. That was about all I liked. The building and rooms are old and need updating. There was peeling paint, dirty lamps, stained linens, dirty floors and a musty smell. The pool was closed, and breakfast was so basic we went to McDonald’s instead. They’re changing management, but to me this is a two-star place or less, not a 2.5.

The staff told us right away that the hotel had recently changed ownership and was going through updates. They explained that WiFi and breakfast wouldn’t be available and the elevator was out, but offered us a first-floor room. They also offered a full refund and suggestions for sister hotels if we preferred to cancel. I appreciated their honesty and the choice. The staff were otherwise very friendly, and I hope the updates turn out well. My one frustration was that I tried calling to confirm beforehand, but the phones weren’t working. If I’d been able to reach them, my family and I could have avoided the last-minute scramble for a place with the amenities we needed for work and school.

Annabelle was fantastic and such a big help. I had too many bags, and she jumped in to carry them all out to the car. The rooms were clean, the place was quiet, and the customer service was great. It’s the best place I’ve stayed in SA in a long time, and I’ve stayed at pretty much all of them. My only complaint during the management change is that breakfast isn’t being served yet. I can’t wait for it to come back, but I didn’t mind much.

Don’t stay here. I’d go to Days Inn instead. The price just isn’t worth it. The room was gross, with suspicious stains on the couch, sheets and carpet, including what looked like blood, white marks and mold. The floor was dirty, there were random hairs, and the restroom didn’t look clean. The toilet paper was partly used and there were only two towels. It smelled like weed, humidity and mold. There was no breakfast in the morning, just old coffee. It’s not the biggest issue, but why offer breakfast if there isn’t any? The shower water would swing between burning and freezing, with no in-between. Staff were kind, but the phones didn’t work, so you couldn’t call to ask for something like a cancellation. In the morning nobody could be found for checkout. I was there for business and needed a printed receipt before leaving, not just an emailed one. Someone eventually helped me and gave me the receipt. The elevator was out, so I had to carry my toddler and bags to the third floor. That wasn’t the worst part, but with my circumstances it did raise safety concerns.
