Roaches were all over the place, and our room hadn’t even been cleaned when we arrived. There was nothing in the way of basic amenities, no hair dryer, iron, hangers, or soap. They advertised free WiFi, but there wasn’t any WiFi at all, and no breakfast either.

We didn’t get stuck there, thankfully. The rooms were filthy and smelled like they’d flooded and never dried properly. There were holes in the walls, torn vinyl on the bathroom floor, grime in the cracks, stains on the carpet, a toilet that looked as if it hadn’t been cleaned in a month, mildew all over the mattresses, and burn holes and stains on every sheet. I even found a broken needle in the carpet on the way to the bathroom. The area felt scary and half destroyed, and the place looked like my idea of the inside of a homeless encampment tent. It looked nothing like the online pictures, and the TV remote had no batteries. A lovely woman at the front desk offered to move us, but the other room was just as disgusting. She refunded us right away, and we left. I feel bad for her being stuck in that dump and hope she finds a better job. We stayed at Econo Lodge Downtown South instead, a short drive down the road, for the same price. It was a little old, but the sheets were clean, the service was great, and there was plenty of hot water.

It was a bad stay all around. The room smelled moldy, there was no mini fridge or phone for calling room service, and the light fixtures had come off the walls. We only got two towels, the door didn’t work properly, and the parking lot lights were off. The front desk clerk wasn’t welcoming either.

The next morning brought cockroaches on the desk, and police were arresting a man a short distance from our room. The blankets also had cigarette burns in them. My boyfriend and I stayed four nights, and the room situation was a mess from the start. At check-in, we were told the room we’d paid for wasn’t available. We had to pick between two double beds with a roll-in shower or a king bed without one. We took the first option, then discovered there was no hot water. My boyfriend got a key for room 259, where the shower did have hot water, while we were still assigned to 104. When he asked if we could move, the desk clerk said we’d have to pay extra. The next day, our card for room 259 stopped working. We were told cards deactivate near smartphones, so we had to go to the desk to get it fixed. The blonde clerk said she’d let us into the room, but wouldn’t give us the card to use ourselves. Later, a man at the desk said room 259 wouldn’t be cleaned if we moved, and that it was “... our call...” We chose to move since it was already clean. The woman made a face that came across as, “Sure thing, idiots.” Then parts of the new room had no electricity. When my boyfriend reported it to a woman passing by, she blamed us for switching rooms and walked off with a nasty attitude. The motel electrician fixed the power, but the fridge still didn’t work. A replacement didn’t work either, so eventually he brought the fridge from our original room, which did. We were both fed up by then, and my boyfriend wanted to go home. If you need a motel in San Antonio, I’d look elsewhere. There are better places to stay.

The rooms were filthy, roaches were everywhere, and things in the room didn’t work. We had two beds but only one pillow for the whole room. I’d already made and paid for a reservation, but their “system” was down, so they made me pay cash as well. It felt like they were taking the reservation money, especially with T mobile. How this place stays open is a mystery. Avoid it.
