SpringHill Suites San Antonio Downtown/Riverwalk A

I booked this property for a business trip with my dog because it advertises itself as pet-friendly. I left food out before heading to work, but when I came back a few hours later, it was untouched. The bowl was covered in ants and other insects. I told management promptly and tried to handle it discreetly. Maintenance came with a pump sprayer from Home Depot and treated the room. When I followed up, management seemed indifferent. They said that in their “sold-out hotel” I was the only guest reporting this, and suggested the insects might have come in with me or my pet. There was no apology, reassurance, or clear plan to stop it happening again, even though I still needed to feed my dog in the room. I ended up moving to another property at my own inconvenience so I could have a clean, safe environment. At checkout they refunded only the $20 pet cleaning fee, which felt minimal given what happened. I know problems can come up at any hotel, but the lack of urgency, accountability, and care here was unacceptable. Management should take pest control and guest concerns more seriously. Based on this experience, I can’t recommend staying here.

The location was great, right in the middle of everything. Service was decent, up to a point, but there were small things that should have been easy to handle. We checked in with only three towels and two washcloths, and there was no bedding or pillow for the pullout, even though our reservation said five people. After the rooms were cleaned, they didn’t leave toilet paper, so we had to go get some ourselves. The rooms also had a funny, musty smell.

The bar was great and the bartender was terrific, but I expected more for the price. The hot tub looked like it had mold in it, was disgusting, and wasn’t working. The elevators were very slow. Out of curiosity I checked prices at the Hampton Inn across the street, and they were almost half as much. After we left, my son realized he’d forgotten his iPhone charger. We called from home, 7 hours after checkout, and the receptionist said it wasn’t in lost and found or in the room. Something to think about.

We had a relaxing, comfortable night at SpringHill Suites by Marriott, San Antonio, with the whole family. The hotel was clean and well maintained, and worked well for both adults and kids. It’s very close to the River Walk and other attractions, so we could explore without traveling far. We enjoyed the stay and would consider coming back to San Antonio.
