TownePlace Suites by Marriott San Antonio Downtown Riverwalk

The hotel itself was fine, but the valet service stood out. They greeted me warmly and brought my car back quickly every time. Special mention to Anthony, who was welcoming and quick to act. He even ran down the street to get my car so I wouldn’t have to wait long. 10/10 service, that’s how it’s done!

This place is misleading, it’s not on the Riverwalk. Bailey at the front desk was rude when we tried to check in. I’d requested early check-in two weeks ahead and had been told 2 PM, but when we arrived we were told we couldn’t check in until 4. Then someone walked in off the street, paid for a room, and Bailey gave them a key. Another person came in and got theirs too. I was baffled and won’t be back. The GM did make things right after we talked about what happened. They gave us some points, all the water we could drink, and a late checkout.

Ashley, the woman working in the morning, was kind and good at customer service. She moved us to a room that worked for us on the second night, and she was great. The stay was still difficult overall. This is the first bad hotel review I’ve ever written, and I’m usually easy to please. I’d paid for a King and Queen room with a sofabed, but was given a King-only room with neither a sofa nor a queen bed. If I’d known, I would’ve booked the Fairfield down the street. You can check the confirmation I posted. The room was pretty terrible and something kept beeping nonstop. The woman at the desk wasn’t friendly, and when I asked to move to the room we’d paid for, she said no and refused a refund. Marriott also said they couldn’t help if the property wouldn’t. I’d think twice before booking here.

The hotel has mixed reviews about room condition, but we ended up with a nice room. The employees were awesome and really looked after us as a traveling family. They also lend out games, which is a cute touch. Parking costs everywhere in San Antonio, so using a garage for self-parking makes sense. We used two garages next to each other nearby: one charged $25 for 24 hours, while the other was $5-$10 depending on the day. Check the posted signs so you know what you’ll pay.
