Travelodge by Wyndham San Antonio Downtown Northeast

This was easily the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Before we could even get room keys, they charged a $170 deposit. The woman checking us in basically held out her hand for more money. Our room was on the second floor, up two flights of stairs. The lobby and hallways were stifling and smelled bad. Inside the room, it smelled of B.O. and mildew, and the floor on the far side was caving in. We tried to overlook it and unpacked a few things before showering and going to bed. The tub was dirty, with someone else’s hair in it, so I cleaned the bathroom as best I could just to use the shower. Holes by the toilet had roaches crawling out, and the whole place stank. At bedtime, it felt like something, maybe little bed bugs, was biting our legs. We all woke up very itchy. There were roaches on the bed frames, and stains on the carpet and walls. The place is gross, especially the very green pool shown on their page and the free breakfast they didn’t have. We stayed 2 nights before changing hotels, and ended up very sick. I don’t recommend it.

I’d had low expectations, but was pleasantly surprised by how clean the room was. After driving all morning, being able to check in early was a real benefit. The place also seemed peaceful and smoke-free.

I was in town briefly for work and everything went smoothly. Check-in was quick, the front desk staff were kind and helpful, and having a business center made it easy to catch up on work between meetings.

We came for a weekend break, and the outdoor pool was welcome on a sweltering afternoon. Housekeeping did a good job every day. The place felt secure and quiet, and everything was tidy and working.
