Beach Haven Inn

The TV was the best part of room #218, it was huge and great. The beds were another story: the mattresses have awful springs that you can feel, and need replacing ASAP. We wanted a tub and shower combo but got only a shower. The key cards stopped working for the room six times, though they still worked at the gate and pool, so we kept going back to get them replaced. We'd stayed here before, though not for a few years, and it's disappointing to see it getting rundown, even after the update about 8 years ago. There was only one staff member, and they'd often be gone for 30 minutes. The hot tub is still fairly nice, but its yellow-looking color really needs repainting. Prices have gone up, I guess like everything else. For comfort and amenities, I'd go to Pacific Terrace a block away. The views, service, comfort, and amenities are worth the extra cost.

The location is the one real standout, and the pool and hot tub were quite clean. The rooms are cute enough, too. Day shift staff were friendly, but the evening staff were the opposite. We stayed a week in a kitchenette room, and the kitchen was barely equipped: two paper plates, two paper bowls, a few paper cups, and fast-food-style plastic utensils. The front desk rudely said that's all they provide, so we went to Walmart for real plates, bowls, cups, and silverware. The mini-fridge was the same kind as in a regular hotel room, not a full-size one like we've had in other kitchenette places. That's not acceptable for somewhere advertising kitchens. The bed was substandard and uncomfortable. The carpet wasn't particularly clean, the shower was rusty and had almost no pressure, and it took five minutes of standing still just to get my hair wet. The walls are paper thin, so it gets loud. We were lucky it was a very slow time, but other reviews say it's awful when busy. The photos look great and the location really is exceptional, but that's about all this place has going for it. If location is all you care about, fine. Otherwise, choose somewhere else. We visit San Diego twice a year and this was the poorest place we've stayed. There are better Pacific Beach options with much better service and amenities for around the same price. Pay a little more for a much better stay. We won't be back.

We loved it for our family. It felt like a little private cottage, with a full kitchen and all the convenience we needed. The beach is right there, and lots of restaurants are an easy walk away. Awesome location, highly recommend!

The room smelled of mildew, and the shower and sink were backed up. There was dirt everywhere, and housekeeping clearly cuts corners. They still haven't released my deposit, either. This place is pretty nasty, and I wouldn't recommend it.
