Best Western Plus Island Palms Hotel & Marina

The rehearsal dinner food was amazing, especially the BBQ ribs and apple turnovers. Our attendant was attentive and polite, and Maria Palestini helped us get all the dinner details finalized. We booked it for 26 people on 2/20/2026, though I can't remember our server's name. We'd stumbled on the hotel and were shown a marina-view suite. The waterfront property is beautiful, with water on both sides. We mentioned we were looking for rooms for our upcoming wedding and were offered rehearsal dinner options. The prices were feasible, so we booked the dinner and five rooms. The process was easy, the property and room worked well for us, and the beds were comfy. The view made a great backdrop for wedding-party photos. Nice job, Best Western Plus. Thank you!

We've stayed here about three times over the past six years, and each time the location, service, and room cleanliness have been great. The rooms could use a refresh, which might bring the hotel up to a four-star accommodation. As it is, I'd call it a solid three-star place with very competitive pricing. I'd gladly stay here again.

We had a quiet, secure, comfortable king suite with a balcony, kitchen, sitting room, and marina view for our anniversary. Dinner upstairs at Blue Wave was delicious. I had the ribeye and potatoes, my husband enjoyed the tortilla soup, and we shared a really good berry and pineapple upside-down cake. You can stroll along the bay on Shelter Island from the hotel, using the same walkway that continues all the way to downtown San Diego. It's also close to the airport, which was convenient for flying. We found no downside and would definitely return.

The room was tight for two queens. You step in and there's a bed right there, with little space for people or luggage, and getting to the closet was awkward. The bathroom was large enough to make up for some of that. One thing to know: across the bay is a naval station. On our first night, aircraft took off every few minutes for about two hours. It was bone-rattling, ear-bursting loud. That's not the hotel's fault, but I wish we'd been warned. The price was very good, and we loved being able to walk straight from our room across to the park that runs the length of the island. The bay views are beautiful, and people were friendly. For the price, it was a very good choice.
