Embassy Suites by Hilton San Diego La Jolla

The suites were roomy and well equipped, and I appreciated having PF Chang's right on the property. The hot breakfast was great, and the staff worked incredibly hard to serve everyone and clean up. Their effort and efficiency were much appreciated. Januzska, if I have her name right, went out of her way to ask guests about their stays, and Kaitlyn at the front desk gave me a warm welcome. I was here for two nights on a business trip. The location is convenient for restaurants and shopping, though the hotel sits beside a busy intersection and traffic noise at night can be bothersome. That's why I gave it four stars.

The staff are amazing and deserve a place that takes better care of itself. The hotel feels stuck in the late 90s: peeling vinyl on the couches, bathroom lighting so dim and dramatic that shaving is a challenge, and food that just isn't good. Cleanliness was a gamble for me, with maybe a 60/40 chance of getting a properly clean room. If a late-90s flashback is what you're after, fine. If you expect at least a clean, up-to-date room, look elsewhere.

The koi water feature on the main floor was a nice touch, and the open-air atrium gives the place a distinctive feel. I wanted somewhere near work and UTC mall, and this turned out to be a great pick. The staff were friendly, breakfast was free, and they also have a social hour.

The staff are consistently quick, professional, and kind, and the rooms are roomy, clean, and comfortable. Breakfast is a little better than the usual hotel offering, though only by a small margin. The gym has very little equipment or variety. The building feels tired. Both the rooms and shared spaces are significantly outdated, and the property is overdue for renovation. It's a practical stay if comfort and service are your priorities, but the facilities need work.
