Residence Inn by Marriott San Diego Rancho Bernardo Scripps Poway

I appreciated the dining room atmosphere and the breakfast options, and yes, parking costs extra, which seems common at hotels now. What really makes this my go-to place is the quiet, clean room, the comfortable bed, and the courteous, helpful service. I have chronic back pain and slept very comfortably. When I went to the desk the first night to ask about an HDL cable, the staff member took my small problem seriously and gave good advice. This was my first stay at the Residence Inn at San Diego/Scripps Poway, after other area hotels had disappointed me and I'd been looking for a place that lived up to its name. The staff seemed well trained. A big shout-out to Matt, Brady, Jason, Colin, and Corina for their professional, caring attitudes. After a week here, I booked another stay for the holidays and look forward to coming back.

Years ago this place was nice, but sadly it's gone downhill badly. Maybe there's new ownership, because it shows. Breakfast was a joke, they can't even cook eggs and potatoes. Housekeeping was rude, the workers arrogant, and management doesn't seem to care. It's giving a name like Marriott a bad reputation. We usually have great stays at Marriott properties, but this Residence Inn was bad. Never again.

The people staying here are nice, and the staff is friendly. There seem to be lots of long-term guests, some apparently staying for years, which is interesting. Breakfast is available every morning and has hot food, though it's decent rather than great. It's a dog-friendly place, and it smells that way, so keep that in mind if you're sensitive to pet odors.

We loved having a kitchen in the room, but the mattress was hard, which made six nights uncomfortable. We ended up buying a topper for it. I think I should have received a one-night refund to cover that cost.
