Alexis Park Hotel

I had an easy time parking, and management was really friendly and accommodating. The rooms were clean and comfortable too, so I don't think the reviews do this place justice. It's downtown, and the area is what it is. I walked to most of the nearby places I wanted to see and had no problems, while staying aware of my surroundings and the time of day.

We chose it for the central location, and the price seemed okay. There was free parking, with plenty of spaces on the weekday we visited. The room was clean and worked well for the four of us on a two-night stay, since we were out all day and only came back to sleep and shower. The beds were comfortable, there were lots of towels, and soap, shampoo and conditioner were provided. The tiled floors outside were clean. We used the stairs by the management office. The only loud noise was a fire truck or ambulance passing, which was understandable.

The rooms were dated, but clean, and the beds were great. Inside was pretty quiet compared with the street, which is why I gave it three stars. The price wasn't bad, though I wouldn't recommend staying more than a day. The neighborhood isn't great, and it was uncomfortable to wait outside with our bags because we couldn't enter the lobby while checking in. I understand the area has its issues, but the person checking us in told us to "move along" while we were sitting outside making phone calls.

Check-in started our stay off badly. To cover a $150 deposit, the receptionist demanded the PIN for our credit card and wouldn't let us enter it ourselves. We thought the amount was excessive, and no other option was offered. Since we'd already paid for the hotel and wanted to get inside, we felt we had no choice but to comply. It was an uncomfortable, unprofessional way to handle things.
