The hostel is remote, so getting to the nearest gas, groceries, or restaurants means a 20-30 minute drive through rural mountain roads. Parking was plentiful, though, and the setting made the trip worthwhile. There are miles of hiking trails, woods, mountains, ocean views, and beaches nearby, with deer, coyotes, rabbits, owls, birds, and other wildlife around. I spent the days exploring nature trails, beaches, and nearby military sites, then drove to Sausalito and Tiburon for brunch and dinner and drinks. I was skeptical before arriving, but found the place clean and peaceful. The staff were wonderful, and the kitchen, laundry, basement game room, and lounge were all very good. Sitting outside with coffee or drinks in the evening, listening to wildlife and the distant ocean, was so calming. The price and professionalism are hard to beat. I'll definitely return for a longer stay and more exploring. Highly recommended.

The scenery around this hostel is unmatched, and Abby treated me and every other guest who came by really well. I walked here from San Francisco, which was a long hike, but enjoyed the whole trek. It's amazing to have a place like this within miles of the city. The building and facilities are old, but comfortable and full of charm. The kitchen is cute and well stocked. This isn't a shiny new hipster party hostel, and that's part of its character. I'd definitely recommend it. Places with cheaper lodging like this matter in San Francisco's increasingly skyrocketing economy.

The common spaces are roomy and comfortable, and the staff are friendly and ready to help. It's also one of the cheapest options around. The building is quite old, especially the bathrooms and showers, but it's fine overall. The hostel is in a beautiful, quiet part of Sausalito. With a car, you can reach Frisco in about 20 minutes, so you can enjoy the city while staying somewhere peaceful and surrounded by nature. There are lovely beaches, hiking trails, and viewpoints over the Pacific, Golden Gate Bridge, and San Francisco. Trust me, the hike to some of those spots is worth it. It worked perfectly for us.

Our family room for 5 was just right, and the rooms had all the supplies we needed. The common area was clean, and check-in and checkout were quick and easy. The staff were very friendly and helpful. You can hear people in nearby rooms through the thin walls, but earplugs are provided and most guests respect the quiet hours. The historic buildings have lovely architectural details, and the grounds smelled of eucalyptus. Rodeo Beach is within walking distance, with beautiful sunset views when coastal fog allows. We'll definitely come back.

A beautiful place to stay, with lots to do nearby and an easy walk to Rodeo Beach. I almost never return anywhere, apart from Grand Canyon, Barcelona and The Lake District U.K., but I'd happily stay here again. Better than a hotel.
