The beds were comfortable, there were a few modern furniture pieces, the smart TV made it easy to cast from our devices, and the renovated bathroom was fine. But even with those positives, this is a hard pass for future San Francisco visits. We chose it because it was across from the Orpheum Theater, where we had a show, got a good online deal, and saw the Wyndham affiliation. I wish we'd read the reviews more carefully. Parts of the hotel feel modernized but odd and unfinished, including a lobby with a large bar that doesn't work. The lobby is dark and dingy, and there are no amenities that we could find apart from a vending machine stocked with medicines and toiletries, without food or drink. The elevators barely worked. Stained, filthy carpet covered the hallways and our room. There was no floor-length mirror, just one in the bathroom, which wasn't convenient when we were getting ready to go out as tourists.

Those automatic lights are ridiculous. A bathroom trip in the middle of the night switches on the full lights, like staring into the sun. Stay in the shower for longer than 5 minutes and they switch off, leaving you in total darkness until you get out and wave at the sensor. The towels barely take water off your skin, and somehow the hotel gives you only one k-cup of coffee for two people. The hallway carpet is old and dirty enough to catch on your luggage wheels. In the room, the bare white walls felt like a hospital room or a high end prison cell. A stay here makes me question the hotel star system. Can any hotel choose its own rating without consequences? If this is a 4-star hotel, my plain oatmeal at home is a 3-star Michelin dish.

The room service kept up, and the front desk was nice. The stay itself was good. Parking was my only complaint. We stayed 2 nights and thought the $55+tax we paid at check-in would cover both nights. From our $300 deposit, we were charged $125+change. Our friends didn't opt for the charge at check-in and paid only $66 for their whole 2 night stay.

I was nervous after reading reviews that made check-in and customer service sound awful. I nearly canceled and booked somewhere else, even if it meant losing my money. My friend and I decided to visit the area and see the hotel before making that choice. I usually stick to Marriott and Hilton and am picky about where I stay, but this place was not bad at all, and I disagree with a lot of the negative reviews. Check-in and checkout were both great. Ben welcomed us warmly when he checked us in. Later, when we came downstairs for our Uber Eats order, we met Z, whose nickname for us became “Zeke.” He was friendly, professional, easy to talk to, and we had a really nice conversation with plenty of laughs while we waited for food. We felt safe. Security was there all night, you needed a room key to enter, and security was inside and outside. There was some sand on the carpet near the elevators, but with thousands of guests, that seemed understandable. All the elevators worked, which was a plus. There was no bar on-site, but that didn't bother us. The room was perfectly fine, and the beds were comfortable, if a little low. I brought my own cleaning supplies and wiped everything down before unpacking. I was surprised that my Clorox wipes came up clean, with no dirt at all. The hotel felt safe, clean, and welcoming, and our stay was much better than I expected. I'm glad we gave it a chance instead of relying on the reviews.

I had the worst hotel stay I've ever had. I was traveling for work and couldn't catch a break. The stained carpet and blankets were bad enough, and they say they're eco-friendly so they don't wash towels during your stay. The towels smelled dirty, and the replacements had the same smell, which made me think the problem was in the washing. Staff had a bit of attitude too. On the second night, someone in the next room was having some sort of party with a speaker. I went down to the lobby 4 different times to complain. Each time they said security was on its way, but the noise never stopped. Eventually they moved me in the middle of the night, carrying all my things to a different floor while I was asleep. They called it an upgrade, but it was the exact same room on another floor. The area outside was unwalkable, with homeless people screaming and bothering you. For exploring the city on foot, I wouldn't stay here. The location may be the worst place you can stay. Only one of the four elevators worked, so every work morning I waited anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes after pressing the button. The sink's water pressure was extremely weak too. The room phone didn't work, so every time something went wrong I had to go down to the lobby myself, which took a long time with the elevators. These were the most inconvenient problems, and I can't even list everything that was wrong. I've never stayed at a Wyndham hotel, and after this experience I have no plans to again.
