The restrooms and showers were super clean and well maintained, and the place is near so many good restaurants and attractions. We didn’t spend much time in the common areas, but they never felt overcrowded, and everyone was friendly and helpful. It was our first hostel stay and more than we could have hoped for. If you’re in SF to see the city and just need somewhere to crash at night, this is a great option. Bring a lock to secure your valuables in the storage provided.

The safety measures made sharing a room with others feel safe, and the pods are so nice, especially for neurodivergent people like me. It was my first hostel stay, and I was surprised by how safe and lovely the experience was.

It’s a reasonably affordable place to stay, and I’d recommend it. The hostel is conveniently located for exploring the city, with supermarkets within walking distance. We slept in a double bed pod. The rooms and shared bathrooms were very clean, and the kitchen was fine for simple meals, with an electric pot, electric pan, and microwave, but no regular stove. The kitchen is the only common space, and there’s very little seating, so it doesn’t really have a social atmosphere or the classic hostel vibe.

My Mum and I spent two weeks in SF in September and October 2025, and we really enjoyed The Chapter. We wanted an inexpensive place since we planned to spend most of our time walking around the city, seeing the sights, or taking day tours outside it. The Chapter delivered: it was clean and safe, the staff were friendly and helpful, and our Deluxe pods in a 3 Bed Mixed Room were comfortable. Even on a busy street, the hostel was quiet enough for us to sleep, as much as jetlag allowed. Our roommate was friendly and mostly kept to himself, and the other travelers on our floor were polite and quiet. No parties or people shouting and slamming doors in the night. There were enough bathrooms and showers for everyone. We tried them all and found favorites. Usually there was no wait, though sometimes we had to wait for the ones we preferred. The door code system was convenient, with just one set of numbers to remember or keep on your phone. When the trip was over, we could simply leave, with no checkout or keys to return. The curtained pods gave us privacy. They stayed warm, so most nights the thin blanket supplied was enough. We usually left the curtains open for more air, even though there was a fan inside, since that felt more comfortable when it was warm. I get cold easily, which I’d worried about beforehand, but it wasn’t an issue. There was a warmer blanket for cooler nights, which we needed maybe twice. The kitchen and common room were small but cozy. We usually sat there to plan the day over breakfast, then had a quick bread and cheese dinner. Only once did we have to wait for someone to leave so we could get two seats. That may vary with the other guests. Great value for money. I’d definitely recommend the hostel to anyone staying in San Francisco. Thanks to the staff for their hard work!

The pod beds are clean and comfortable, which was nice after a long day when I wanted some space to myself. Booking and checking in were easy, and the price worked well for my flexible plans. I used it as a base while traveling with a California rail pass, since Emeryville and Oakland are easy to reach from SF.
