Riviera hotel

The neighborhood can feel busy and unpredictable, which is common in this part of San Francisco, but once inside the Riviera Hotel, it’s calm, safe, and well maintained. The building has a classic charm that you don’t find much anymore. My room was clean, comfortable, and had everything I needed for an easy stay. The staff were genuinely attentive, warm, and welcoming. You can tell they care about their guests. For an affordable place with kind people and reliable comfort, it’s a great choice. I’d definitely stay again.

We paid extra for an upgraded room with its own bathroom, but it was just as bad as the filthy shared restroom in the hallway. There wasn’t any toilet paper, and the shower and sink were so dirty I’d bring shower shoes. The bed had stains and hair on it, one pillowcase was brownish, and the white one beside it had a large yellow stain in the corner. The window blinds were broken, and when we arrived the window was already halfway open with no screen, so flies were all over the room. It wouldn’t close or lock properly either, and someone could climb the outside stairs and get in. The place felt seriously unsafe and unsanitary. When checking in for the key, there was an unmade bed and the owners’ laundry right in front of the desk window. I don’t understand how this place could even be licensed, if it is. This has been a nightmare. My boyfriend and I spent $100 at Target on pillowcases, comforters, and towels, and I’m hoping we can make it through tonight. Please wish us luck and keep us in your prayers. Save your money and protect your health. I’d tell anyone to stay out of this building.

The hotel was dirty, the toilet unusable, the staff discriminatory, and the location felt sketchy. I booked three nights for 300, then found out you could book elsewhere for half that price. I left as soon as I arrived. When I asked about canceling and getting a refund, the staff said, “we cannot cancel or issue a refund since we lose every business.” Avoid it.

Please don’t book this hotel. When I booked online and was shown the room, it smelled so bad that I couldn’t stay there. It seemed like a room where a homeless person had slept before. I asked for my money back, but they kept it. Hospitality seems completely unfamiliar to them. It was one of the worst experiences of my life. They can keep the money if they need it more than I do, but I hope they use it to pay someone to clean the room.
