The free breakfast was pretty mediocre, but hey, free food is free food, so I’ll take it. The location in town was good, parking was great, and the security felt good. The rooms were lovely and comfortable, with decent privacy. I especially liked the balcony in the female-only dorm and the cozy patio. The staff were lovely. Shout-out to my guy Trevor for going above and beyond for me and my friend. Really great place!

Breakfast was okay, with bagels and jelly and yogurt. There’s no kitchen, just a toaster and microwave, so plan for that. We were next to a big street but didn’t hear traffic noise, though that may depend on where your room is in the building. We stayed two nights while exploring San Francisco and had a great time. There was a mix-up at check-in because the room assigned to us was still occupied, but they sorted it out and gave us another room. We’d definitely come back.

The facility itself deserves five stars. It’s clean, organized, and thoughtfully set up, with towels, a fridge, garbage, parking, and a hip lounge. Customer service and attention to detail were on point. Thanks for the parking, too. The shared rooms need better awareness of basic etiquette. Some guests seemed to think they were in their own homes: doors slammed, mysterious substances were smoked indoors at 4 or 5 a.m., lighters were flicked every few minutes, which is a serious safety concern, and someone finished the toilet paper without replacing it. If you want to do whatever you like, book a private room. Shared spaces only work when people show basic decency. It’s still a cute, clean property, and I’d recommend it, but guests can ruin the vibe. If you’re a light sleeper, sensitive to smoke, or just want rest and respect, bring earplugs and hope for good roommates.

The Marina is a very walkable neighborhood, and there’s public transportation to wherever you want to go. The staff are always friendly, and I think they recently added a patio. This is probably the best hostel in SF, especially because it has a parking garage. It’s the only hostel in the city that offers one, let alone in the world. What’s not to like?

We’re road-tripping down the coast and spent one night here. The room was incredibly clean, the location was perfect, and the breakfast options in the morning were great. At checkout, though, the woman at the front desk gave us dirty looks when we handed over our room cards, and we wondered what we’d done wrong. Aside from that, it was a wonderful place to stay.
