Super 8 by Wyndham San Francisco/Union Square Area

My favorite hotel in SF. It’s low key, the rooms are quaint and efficient, and the location makes it easy to get around the city. After a full day out, it’s a safe, cozy place to rest. I once woke up, hiked down Taylor to the Embarcadero, then ran across the golden gate bridge and back. It took almost four hours and covered 16 miles, but it was the best way I could fully take in this amazing city.

The room was a spotless, comfortable suite with a separate room and a large bathroom. It ran warm, but thankfully there was AC. There were two TVs, one bed, and a couch for, uh, having fun with my girlfriend. The only small annoyance was the bathtub floor squeaking whenever I moved my feet. The hallways were in good shape, though the building itself looked really outdated, as you’d expect from a Super 8. There’s a front desk, computer and printer, stairs, and one elevator. The Tenderloin area is kind of sketchy, but the people living on the streets aren’t the hotel’s fault. I expected worse for a Super 8 here.

We booked a standard queen room and were pleasantly surprised to get upgraded to a queen suite. It was really nice, with a full bathroom, bathtub, and a separate room with a TV. A lot of places in San Francisco don’t even have a restroom in the room, so this was especially cute. The area has plenty of shopping options and the food nearby wasn’t too bad. I’d recommend it to anyone trying to save some money and still get that good-room feeling.

The breakfast was basically toast, a bagel, cereal, and juice, so I wouldn’t really call it breakfast. David’s diner and Pinecrest diner are both within walking distance around the corner. City bus 38 R stops right in front of the hotel. The rooms were clean and updated.
