Hotel Majestic

The hand-painted elevator was such a treat, and there was even a cute bug on the wall. Our room had a lovely view and a refrigerator, and the staff were friendly. It smelled a little at first, but that didn’t bother us for long. The Hotel Majestic was affordable, beautiful, and full of character. We liked being within walking distance of Japantown, and about a ten-minute walk from the California St & Van Ness Ave cable car stop. Breakfast was free and basic, with hard-boiled eggs always available for protein. A warm option like scrambled eggs or meat would’ve been nice. We’d happily stay again.

I felt like a princess sleeping in the vintage bed beneath its big drapes. The antique furniture gives the rooms a dreamy feel, and the whole building is full of vintage details that bring San Francisco’s history to life. Despite all the old furnishings, the room was spotless, especially the bathroom. It was a beautiful stay, and I’d absolutely come back and recommend it to anyone who likes charm, history, and character.

My partner and I spent our vacation sneezing and feeling congested, but only inside the hotel. It was extremely dusty, and I suspect the curtains and canopies hadn’t been cleaned in a long time. The rooms also vary a lot: some have vintage clawfoot tubs, others modern inset tubs. Some include liquid soap, several robes, and decent hair dryers, while others have bar soap, no robes, and hair dryers that don’t work. The photos on booking sites are very misleading. Anything below a queen suite is basically a shoe box, with very few amenities and only a foot of space between the bed and wall. The only reason I’m giving a second star is that they granted our upgrade request and the free breakfast was decent. Your stay seems to come down to luck. This isn’t the luxury experience the pictures suggest, and I’d spend my time and money elsewhere.

We were out at the ballet that evening. When we returned, one bathroom towel was drenched while the other wasn’t, and the top of the toilet seat cover was wet too. We had the front desk person come and look. It was unexplained. Lisa, who haunts the hotel, is friendly. My 12-year-old granddaughter thought the paranormal experience was cool. It was our first visit, and we had a spacious, comfortable suite in a beautiful hotel. The front desk employees were friendly and helpful, and breakfast in the elegant dining room was decent. There were make-your-own waffles, cream cheese and bagels, toast, hard-boiled eggs, muffins, cereal, hot chocolate, tea, coffee, orange juice, and water. Great place to stay. 🫶
