The location is nice and the place is cute, but sleep was impossible. I could hear footsteps overhead, people talking on my floor, and doors shutting below. Doors slammed all over the building, waking me at every hour. The walls and floors might as well be paper. I was here for an important work trip and got no sleep, so I regret booking it. There’s no food or gym, and the elevator is out until January. It’s surprising the rates haven’t been reduced. I booked the Ballet room online, knowing it was small, but the photos showed a table and chairs. There was nowhere to sit for a Zoom call except the bed, and it was almost too cramped to open my suitcase on the floor. At checkout, they charged a different amount than either of the two receipts they’d emailed before I arrived. I’m disputing the charge now. In reply to the hotel: you clearly don’t care, since you paste the same response under every negative comment.

The Inn was built in the 20s to house Opera House performers. They’ve kept its period elegance and class while modernizing where needed. The nightstands have plug-ins for tech, and the amenities are contemporary and in great shape. It feels classical, not outdated. City Hall looks impressive day and night, and the lights at Opera Plaza and the opera, symphony, and ballet houses nearby are stunning. You can walk to all of them in just a few minutes. The location can’t be beat. We love hotels with history and charm, and the rooms are laid out so well they feel like little apartments. Daniel did his absolute best to accommodate my special needs, and the rest of the staff were just as helpful and kind. It reminded me of a hotel we had in London. We’d definitely stay again.

A boutique place in a great spot, near Van Ness and the bus line connecting City Hall to the Matina District. Several excellent restaurants are within walking distance, with a range of cuisines and prices.

A lovely little boutique hotel in a hard-to-beat location. Great restaurants and all the SFO arts venues are an easy walk away. The staff are friendly and very helpful, and the rooms have been newly renovated. The new king-size bed was extremely comfortable. I’d highly recommend Inn at the Opera hotel.

Room 5 was one of the smallest, which worked fine for me on my own but might feel tight for two. It faced a quiet alley behind the building, beside SF Ballet. The room had a handy counter and drawers with a mini fridge, microwave, toaster, cutlery, dishes, mugs, wine glasses, a cutting board, paper towels, and plenty of towels and rags. There wasn’t a separate kitchen sink, just the bathroom one, but that was a small inconvenience. The bed and bathroom felt like what you’d get at a Hyatt Regency or Holiday Inn Express. I booked four nights over Easter through Priceline early and paid very little. Check-in and checkout were smooth, and I barely needed to speak with the front desk. Housekeeping respected the privacy tassel. One staff member even knocked shortly after I arrived to ask if I had everything I needed, which I didn’t expect. The building is old, has an old-building smell, and some floors aren’t quite level. Still, the floors don’t creak, the hall carpet has a soft floral print, and the rooms have decent berber carpet. It’s clearly looked after. The location is handy for big music venues, right by SF Ballet and a couple blocks from SFJAZZ, Bill Graham Civic Aditorium, and Symphony Hall. Highly recommended.
