Town House Motel

The check-in person was warm and personable, let us leave our things before check-in, and even got us into the room early. There was a mini fridge, a coffee machine that didn't make a full pot, working cable TV, and strong shower pressure. The location was decent, but there weren't many shops or restaurants nearby, and Lombard's main strip was a bit of a walk. We overpaid quite a lot for a run-down motel because of surge pricing during the JP Morgan Convention. The room had many problems: stained chairs, gnats, gross carpet, peeling paint, and an obvious mold spot on the ceiling above the bed. The AC smelled awful when running. The bed cover had burn holes everywhere, and the throw pillows looked dirty. Someone had covered the peephole with toilet paper, and housekeeping hadn't removed it. The parking lot had sketchy people around, especially at night, so we didn't feel safe. Our room key failed more than five times, which could be a real hassle after 11 PM when the office closes, though it didn't happen to us then. The vending machine took my money after working once. Outlets on both sides of the bed were awkwardly more than a foot above the nightstands. There was no microwave, the shower was tiny with a low showerhead for a tall person, and we paid for water every day because we didn't trust the tap. It was generally dingy.

The beds were okay, parking was available, and the staff were very friendly. That's about all the good I can say. Everything else was old, dirty, and smelly. The bedside lamp was broken and taped up, the bathroom sink had a huge crack, and we didn't use the shower because of the mold and broken tiles. The pictures can tell the rest.

We weren't bothered during our stay, and it wasn't noisy like some people have said. There are lots of restaurants nearby, and the bus can get you anywhere else in the city. The guaranteed free parking space for each hotel room was what drew us here, and it was nice not to worry about an extra charge. The room was dated, which wasn't a big deal, but it could've been cleaner and smelled as soon as we walked in. The toilet seat wobbled, and it was the lowest toilet I've ever sat on. Some lights didn't work, and the room was already dim. I'd book again for the price, depending on what you're expecting.

I was worried about finding parking, but when I came back after being out, my space was still there right in front of my room. The lot seemed busy, and there wasn't a number or sign marking the spot, so I was surprised and really grateful to find it waiting for me. I'll definitely return. Andy and Elsa were especially wonderful. They kept the whole place impeccably clean and well maintained, and their professionalism and care for guests really showed. The staff made my stay delightful, with no complaints at all. Thank you for an unforgettable experience.
