Sands by The Sea

You get what you pay for. The room was old and outdated, with lots of wear and tear, and the desk chair cushion was torn up. It smelled old too. There's no a/c, only a ceiling fan, which snowed dust all over the bed. Most TV stations were snowy with static. There was no lock on the inner door connecting to the next room, so I had to wedge a chair under the doorknob. At least the toilet flushes like nobody's business.

The windows were so grimy that the view was impossible to make out, and the chair looked like it had come straight from a dumpster. There was white powder across the carpet and by the doorway, too. The room looked barely cleaned, and it smelled like black mold mixed with dirty diapers. I rarely post reviews, but this place needs a serious warning. The owner seems to have no interest in maintaining it. I felt so uneasy I half expected to wake up in a bathtub full of ice with a kidney missing. Stay far away and book somewhere else.

We’ll be back. The price was great, and the property was really nice, especially being so close to Hearst Castle. There’s a heated pool and fire pits with a big, roaring fire and an ocean view.

Getting to the beach was great, and everything was clean. The staff were nice, too. Just avoid room 243. Some kind of machine nearby runs all night, and it’s VERY hard to sleep.
