La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Orange County Airport

The Manager deserves credit for handling staffing so well and graciously approving my early check-in and late checkout. The front desk staff were welcoming and accommodating throughout my stay at La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Orange County Airport. The noise was constant, with people talking, yelling, and generally making a racket in the hallways. People were smoking cigarettes and pot in nearly every hallway and entrance, so smoke smell was everywhere despite signs saying the hotel is 100% smoke-free. There was no enforcement of smoking areas. I was also pretty sure drug dealing was happening in the parking lot and around the hotel's perimeter. The elevators were frustrating too: whichever floor button you pressed, one stopped at every floor, and the other elevator's buttons didn't light up. Inside, the carpet was stained, the bathroom was tiny and had a sink attached to the wall, and the toilet plugged multiple times even though that never happens at home. They seem to have updated the flooring but left everything else original. This is not a three-star hotel, maybe one star or one and a half at best. Don't be fooled by the pictures. I sure was.

The first-floor room smelled strongly of mildew as soon as we walked in, so I immediately asked to move. The second room was a big disappointment too. Every layer of linen was filthy, and the room didn't feel sanitary at all. We went back to the front desk to ask for a refund because we weren't comfortable staying there, but they couldn't help and told me to look up the customer service number myself. There was no manager on site either. This was a huge inconvenience and waste of time, and I was late to my plans. Check-in had been smooth and the staff were super nice, which made it all the more disappointing. I'd stayed at another Quinta that was beautiful, so I don't know what happened here.

The receptionist was very polite and attentive, which was a positive. But the room had problems: the TV facing the bed didn't work, and even after I requested maintenance it still had no signal and cabling issues. The coffee maker was very dirty, with insect remains inside. The air conditioning gave off a strong dusty smell, and the bedside table drawers wouldn't open. Access to the rooms was open to anyone passing via stairs from the parking plaza, which didn't feel safe to me. The hotel has a regular pool area with a cold-water jacuzzi, a gym, and common areas in the lobby. There is no spa, although the property descriptions say there is one. The room reservation information across all platforms says there's an airport shuttle but doesn't make clear which airport. It's only from John Lane Airport. I told reception that this wasn't clear in the descriptions, and they confirmed they don't specify it. If you're visiting the area, there are other hotels with even more affordable prices and more complete amenities for comfort and functionality.
