The Ocean Breeze Mesa House, one of the Old Yacht Club Inn properties, worked really well for our group of three adults and two small kids. We could see the ocean from the house, walk to shops and restaurants, and reach the main beaches and downtown in just a few minutes by car. The residential neighborhood felt safe and quiet, and it was close to the beach. There was plenty of room for everyone, with comfortable bedrooms and good living and dining spaces for hanging out together. The kitchen was especially nice, with modern, top-notch appliances and everything we needed for breakfast and dinner. We also loved the backyard and hammocks. It was comfortable, clean, and nicely decorated. Hope we get to visit again someday!
The B&B is steps from the beach, with bikes, a shared kitchen, and a shared porch overlooking the residential part of the city. It's an old place, but its Edwardian look and vintage charm give it a distinctive appeal. I booked two nights through Expedia in early March last year because I love Santa Barbara and wanted to make the most of a beach trip. I liked the amenities and the cute atmosphere. But one morning, my boyfriend and I were getting ready to bike to Stearn’s Wharf when the property manager came over and asked who we were. I gave her my name, room number, and length of stay, and then she figured out who I was. We laughed it off as a misunderstanding, until she said, “Sorry, I’m just xenophobic.” My smile disappeared. I couldn't believe she'd say that openly. It felt discriminatory, and I was uncomfortable for the rest of the stay. We spent more time on State Street and the boardwalk than using the amenities. I felt unwelcome and out of place, so I wouldn't recommend the B&B or return, though I would happily visit Santa Barbara again, just stay somewhere else. I was there a year and a half ago, so management may have changed. If it has, I might consider coming back. It showed me that customer service matters more than amenities and charm.
We were glad to find this place because Santa Barbara doesn't allow airbnb. My family wanted somewhere with a homey feel instead of a big hotel, and this little hidden gem felt like staying in someone's home. The location is awesome, and we could easily ride our bikes downtown. I also loved the weekend coffee cart.
We spent one night across three rooms, Belle Caruso, Gallaher, and San Miguel. Each felt like stepping into a friend's home, clean and ready for us with complimentary snacks. The staff were helpful, and the stay was comfortable. It's more like visiting Aunt Lisa at the lake house than staying in a hotel, and a quick stroll down the street gets you to the beach.
Just a block from the beach, and a nice break from the usual hotel stay. The place is basic, but clean and comfortable. A great little market nearby made it easy to stock up for the beach and save a bit on food.
