Hitching Post Studios Inn

I’d stayed here many, many years ago, but had forgotten about this great place. After hearing what had happened to me downtown, a very nice gentleman helped get me out of the boardwalk area and drove me all the way to Capitola, to the Department of rehab where I had meetings. I was worried because I’d forgotten what kind of meeting I had, and it was a phone meeting. Yellow Cab was no help when I called from this area. They couldn’t understand me because of a language barrier, and dispatch kept saying the Salinas Yellow Cab would arrive in 45 to 15 minutes. The gentleman told me to check out the Hitching Post, and it reminded me of the place I’d stayed before.

Danny, the manager, is a great guy, and the maids are amazing. The rooms are even better. I was born and raised here in Santa Cruz, and this is the best place in town. This is your spot.

The location was good, and we only stayed one night, but I expected a little more for the price. There were cockroaches in our room, odd stains on the kitchen cabinets, and the front door got stuck easily. Our window wouldn’t close, so I had to fix it myself. The Wi-Fi was poor, and cell service in the room was bad too. The walls were very thin, so we could hear everything when someone nearby played music.

The kitchenette room turned out to be exactly what we needed when our camping plans met temperatures in the 90s. It had everything for an extended stay, and the owner was friendly and really helpful. The room was clean and mostly updated, though the original cabinets, freshly painted, stove, and microwave were still there. Everything worked, the bed was comfortable, and the AC did its job. We even had a little porch for morning coffee. The location suited our plans, it saved the trip, and it was a great value.
