Ayres Lodge Alpine

We always come back here when we visit family around SanDiego. The cabin-style decor, fireplace, and pond out back make the place feel charming, and the location off the 8 freeway is handy for restaurants and shopping. Staff have been courteous and helpful, too. Breakfast is reliably hot and fresh, especially the delicious biscuits and gravy. Thanks, we’ll definitely return.

Williams really went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable and looked after. Everyone we met on staff was friendly and greeted us. The pool and spa were clean, and the nightly fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies were delicious. There’s a good range of nearby places within walking distance, from pizza and donuts to a market, ice cream, liquor store, and restaurants. Breakfast had decent options, the price was reasonable, and the place felt clean, comfortable, and safe. I’d stay again when I’m back in the area.

Breakfast was already picked over when we came down at 9:30 AM, and the attendants wouldn’t replenish the trays even though there were still 30 minutes before closing. That capped off a pretty frustrating stay. At 5:15 AM, the smoke alarm began chirping because its battery was low. I tried the room phone, but it had no dial tone and wasn’t connected to the wall jack, so I had to call on my own cell. Jerry, the attendant, was rude and kept asking what I expected him to do. I asked him to replace the battery or take the alarm down, and he eventually hung up. When I called back, he first denied hanging up, then said he assumed I’d ended the call because of the silence. I explained again that I needed help. He also asked why I wasn’t using the room phone, and I told him it had no line. He came to the room without a stepladder and said he’d be back with one. After removing the alarm, he stood there while my two children were asleep and I was in my jacket and sleep clothes, lecturing me about checking for phone lines and saying the room had been painted before. I stayed quiet and stared at him until he finally left. I couldn’t get back to sleep, and I had to be up early to spend the day with family. The lost hours of rest were made worse by Jerry’s attitude and unprofessional behavior. We had checked in Saturday, May 25, 2026, and initially settled in without any problems.

The property was clean and looked well cared for, and the staff made us feel welcome with how friendly and courteous they were. I had a wonderful stay at the Ayres Lodge Alpine and would absolutely recommend it to friends and family. Five stars from me.
