The Gables Inn - Sausalito

Room 206 had a lovely view, and dinner was an easy walk away. This is a small, cute hotel with its own historic character. Tamara was so sweet at check-in. It’s close to everything, and I liked being able to text or call if I needed anything. They provide complimentary water and umbrellas around the inn in case of rain. The parking area is a bit small, though manageable, as seems to be the case around Sausalito. There are several staircases, including a carpeted one to this room, so keep that in mind if you have luggage or mobility issues. A bit of a workout, but part of the charm. If chain hotels are your thing, this may not suit you; I’d recommend it to people who like smaller inns. We’d definitely stay here again.

The rooms were well kept, and the hotel is charming and close to town. But we hoped for a restful morning and were woken by someone plunging a toilet or doing some other loud work. When we tried to get back to sleep, the innkeeper kept us awake with a long phone call. He didn’t seem to realize how far his voice carried, and some consideration for guests would’ve been appreciated. Avoid the room right next to the hotel entrance if you stay here. We won’t be returning.

Zack was incredibly accommodating and made the stay wonderful. My room at The Gables was beautiful and comfortable, with a private patio looking toward San Francisco. The location is ideal for walking around Sausalito. I had a fantastic time and can’t recommend The Gables enough.

Honestly, I wanted a refund for the whole stay. The first room, 208, was too bright because of the thin curtain and glass door, and the shower pressure was very weak. We asked to move and room 304 was disappointing too: dated, dirty carpet, broken windows that wouldn’t close, no aircon, and even worse water pressure. The person in charge took off the carpark fees as compensation, but that wasn’t enough. Don’t be fooled by the hotel photos and fake comments. This was meant to be our getaway before a big holiday trip, and they completely ruined it.
