Spark by Hilton Savannah Midtown

Room 320 was fine for a short stay, and the hotel looked modern and clean. The price was reasonable as well. I did notice a few things that need attention in that room and apparently others. The tub felt slippery underfoot, which could be a safety issue. The faucet at the tub spout, not the shower head, kept leaking, and the caulk beneath the spout was lifted and not sealed properly. These seem fixable, but should be addressed.

The shower had no hot water, and at -4 celcius that was especially frustrating. Breakfast was also a letdown: cold boiled eggs, no tea choices, no bread, and no omelette station. There wasn’t a microwave in the room either, which would have been useful. The property has recently been renovated, and it looked clean, modern, and well cared for. When we found the broken sink drain about 15 minutes after check-in, the front desk handled it professionally and moved us to another room right away. The staff response was appreciated. Cleanliness and service made the stay decent, but the breakfast needs work.

After traveling with a 5 year old, we found out at the hotel that our reservation for three nights had been canceled, with no explanation. My daughter had booked the room for us, so suddenly we were trying to find somewhere else to stay. I’d read the reviews the night before and wasn’t impressed, so I’m choosing to see this as a blessing. Really disappointing that they carry the Hilton name. I wouldn’t spend my time or money here.

The location worked well for us, about 20 minutes from Savannah, and the front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast area was fine and its staff were cheerful. There were cereals, fruit, muffins, bagels, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, and oatmeal you had to prepare yourself. Nothing else was hot. The orange juice tasted watered down. They had three kinds of milk, including oatmeal, plus coffee and hot water for tea or cocoa. Our room was quiet once we were in it, and the bed was comfortable. We used our own pillows because the hotel ones were flat. The TV and mini fridge worked, and there was plenty of hot water at the sink and in the shower. The sink by the entry was unexpected, so we entered slowly to make sure nobody was standing there. That was manageable, though the room door was hard to open. The parking lot door into the first floor was also difficult with the room key. The fitness room had what we needed, along with water, a TV, and towels. We’d asked for a quiet room at check-in two days ago, but room 135 was near the dumpsters. We were woken at 5:48 Saturday morning by trash pickup. Even the nearby dog was quieter! Next time we’ll request a higher floor on the street side.
