Thunderbird Inn

The property is older, so don’t expect a Hilton, but the rates were reasonable compared with nearby places. We picked it for the vintage 60s feel and loved that part of it. The location was fantastic, with nearly everything we wanted to see within walking distance. We were there for our honeymoon and had a lovely stay. They left Moon Pies and RC Colas in our room, and the complimentary donuts from a local bakery were good.

Getting around on foot was easy, and I liked the retro decor, Moon Pies, and RC left in the room. But the room needed more upkeep: the TV wouldn’t turn on, and there was no hairdryer despite the listing saying one was provided. The popcorn was stale and the donuts were dry. Parking should be included with the room for one vehicle. For what you get, it felt overpriced.

The location was great, and I enjoyed the front desk staff, donuts, drinks, and retro atmosphere. I wanted to like the stay more, since the problems seem fixable. The bathroom needs fresh paint, and the shower leaked onto the floor. The wall air conditioner needs a deep clean, and there was no local TV. Parking costs $25 a night. The biggest issue was the cleaning crew starting early and being extremely loud, yelling to each other about gossip and clattering up and down the stairs with carts and trash cans.

Great location, and the place was simple and clean. The donuts were great, too. But for the price, you’re mostly paying for the look. It should’ve cost $30 less, and the $25 nightly parking charge is kind of bananas. We had a corner room by the ice machine and housekeeping, under the stairs. It was genuinely loud most of the time, with banging whenever people went up. There seemed to be no soundproofing at all. There’s no cable or HDMI cord. Their casting software seemed very sketchy and didn’t work with my VPN. I wasn’t going to turn it off on public Wi-Fi. The staff were a bit odd, not unpleasant exactly, just not what I’d expect in Savannah, Georgia.
