We stayed here last year, and there’s been a big improvement. They were renovating many rooms when we checked in, including new toilets, beds, and TV stands. It’s the cheapest option nearby, and the location works well when we visit my sister. We only needed somewhere to sleep, shower, and have breakfast. Breakfast is much the same as before: biscuits and gravy, bagels, mini muffins, bread, some fruit, and a waffle bar. Nothing fancy, but it fills you up.

It was quiet where I stayed, which was a real plus, and the staff accommodated me by putting me in a room with nobody nearby. The hallways were long and inconvenient, and the continental breakfast was sparse. My sheets were dirty, with hair on them, and there was hair and shaving residue on the bathroom wall and tub. Something bit my leg during the night, though I never saw what it was, so I put my clothes and belongings on the table afterward. Only one room I passed smelled like weed. The place was a crash pad that works in a pinch, and the owner lets people live in one part of the hotel. Not bad for what it was.

The staff were friendly enough, and when I went downstairs with my belongings to report that my first room wouldn’t open because its card reader was dead, they quickly gave me another. Renovation work was going on, including sheets of wood we had to cross to reach the main entrance. The second room had a stained carpet, hair on the pillowcases before we’d used the bed, little space, and a TV that kept turning off and back on every two or three minutes. The hallways had trash on the floor and reminded us of “The Shining.” The continental breakfast was okay at best.

The beds were comfortable, the bedding was clean, and breakfast was decent for something included. It’s a third or less of the price of nicer hotels around greater Chicago, so I’d stay again to save money if I could overlook the rest. Housekeeping does just enough to get by, and much of the place is dated or in poor repair. The elevator was out of order, the fitness room wasn’t working at all, and the pool was closed. My remote was even tied together with a shoelace. It’s not horrible for the price, but that’s the only reason I’d return.
