The staff member who checked us in around 10 p.m. was wonderful, cheerful, and very helpful. I saw her again at 7 a.m., and she was just as cheerful. I wish I remembered her name, because her customer service deserves recognition. We checked in September 24, 2025. The room was surprisingly large, and the linens were clean. The breakfast was better than I expected, and the ice machines were nearby. The room itself looked a bit grungy once we finally figured out the lights: the curtains had a brown tint and the walls needed a scrub. For such a big room, the dated small TV felt inadequate, and its remote didn’t work and had duct tape on it. We were heading to TN and needed a stop before the middle of the trip. Comfort Inn was full, so its representative recommended this sister hotel. I was annoyed there was no porte-cochère and that I had to unload in the rain, but the helpful staff member made the stay.

I stayed in room 210 over the weekend, and I’ll never stay here again. The customer service was horrible, and the incident was horrifying. A skinny white housekeeper knocked on my door Saturday. When I opened it, she seemed shocked that I asked for clean towels and fresh sheets. She got agitated and refused to finish making the bed, saying she had a lot on her plate. Then she left my door propped open with my dirty towels and went downstairs. I went to the front desk to report it and ask for someone else to finish the task. The other woman was in the back talking to the housekeeper, and I heard the housekeeper call me belligerent, rude, and disrespectful, all the stereotypes a racist white woman might use about a Black woman. When I confronted them because that wasn’t true, both women looked shocked, like deer in headlights. The housekeeper then said that if I didn’t like the service, maybe I should leave. Can you believe that in 2026? Nothing was done.

I prepaid $77 for a room through Priceline, but at the desk I was told I couldn’t stay because the booking was under my husband’s name. I had the confirmation and proof of payment. I explained that my husband couldn’t come or call, our home had frozen pipes, and I needed a local place for my children to get to school. None of it made a difference. The staff member showed no empathy and said I had to pay again or leave. I was forced to put down another $150 hold, and no refund was offered. This hotel relies on rigid policies instead of basic judgment or compassion. If something unexpected happens after you book, don’t expect help, expect to be charged more.

Melinda deserves a shout out for letting our solo musical guest use a makeshift “greenroom” before and after his performance. My family had come up from downstate for a birthday party next door at the Palazzo, and they all said their rooms were very nice and the hotel was accommodating. The lobby, breakfast area, and other amenities were clean and well kept. They also have brand new beds in every room. I highly recommend the hotel. Five stars for trying hard!

We stayed twice, a week apart, and the second room was much better for lights and noise. In the first room, 215, the hair dryer had no nightlight, and the a/c sounded like a plane taking off more than once an hour. There’s no elevator, and they seemed short-staffed. Breakfast was subpar for Choice hotels, with only cheap yogurt and no boiled eggs.
