Crown Inn

The room smelled musty, and two of the four pillows were yellowed. The bathroom fan didn't work, and the bathroom window had neither a screen nor any fall protection. The key was an old-fashioned physical one, not a card. My partner saw what looked like a drug deal on the sidewalk. The lobby was locked when we arrived at 3:30 p.m. I kept ringing the outside bell every few minutes, but didn't see anyone at the desk until I called the hotel. On the better side, the neighborhood was quiet despite being near a fairly busy road, and the restaurant across the parking lot was great. Downtown was 20-30 minutes away. The TV was good, and the employee who checked us out was nice. The front desk also called five minutes before checkout to give us a heads-up. We stayed in a second-floor room on 9/1/24. The price was good.

We had a really enjoyable night at Crown Inn in North Seattle. The owners were conscientious, and the parking lot felt secure. Parking was free, too. Staff were friendly and efficient, so check-in and checkout were easy, and we felt safe despite the modest neighborhood. The room was clean and had a kitchen area with a stove, sink, refrigerator, and microwave. The firm bed was surprisingly comfortable, and I especially liked the pillows. The bathtub was spotless, with wonderfully hot water. The price was a major reason we chose it. Other Seattle hotels were going for $370-$400 a night, while this stay cost only a fraction of that, in the two-figure range before tax. It felt like good value without giving up comfort or cleanliness. There are dining and shopping options nearby. We found Fu Shen within walking distance. It's carry-out only, though driving there is more convenient. IHOP is around the corner, with a grocery store right behind it. The surrounding district isn't especially glamorous, but the hotel exceeded our expectations. We'd happily stay again.

I would stay here again. For about what a private hostel room in a more central location would cost, this was a nice, basic motel room with a comfortable bed and good value. I was glad I chose it over the hostel. It was a private space, and I didn't hear people in the other suites. The room was quiet at night for the most part, and the kitchenette had a small stove, microwave, and small fridge. The bed was comfortable, too. The bathtub was deep and nice, though I would have taken a bath if I knew it was clean. Cleanliness was the drawback. A dirty towel was hanging over the closet bar, and the other towels were askew, so I couldn't tell if they were clean. I saw hairs in the sink and tub. I rinsed them down the sink, but there was nothing in the room to clean with, which should have been handled by housekeeping. The next morning I told an owner, who said his wife would clean. I left one of my own hairs in the sink to check, and it was still there, so the sink hadn't been cleaned. She did mostly remove a mug ring from a surface and took away the dirty towel. They also brought the hangers I requested, along with an ironing board and iron.

The surrounding area is rough and can feel unsafe, so this rating is for a solo traveler or a small group or couple, not families with kids. The hotel itself does a good job. Staff are super friendly, the rooms are clean, there's plenty within walking distance, and buses are easy to access.
