Hyatt Place Seattle Downtown

We passed on the complimentary breakfast because the lobby smelled like puke and chemicals, and that odor stuck around all weekend. The room was spacious with a good view of the Space Needle, and the linens and towels were clean when we arrived, though the bathroom felt cramped. The location works well if you can get around on foot. Walgreens is across the street, the Space Needle is an eight minute walk, and Pike Place Market is about 21 minutes away. We felt fairly safe walking around at night before 8 PM.

The room price looked to be around $260 when I booked and checked in, and I expected taxes to add a bit. The final bill was over $320 because of a $45 overnight parking charge that nobody had mentioned. If they'd told me, at least it wouldn't have been a surprise. I've never paid to park at a hotel where I'm already paying to stay. I could understand a charge for non-guests, or maybe for a second car in a one-room booking, even if I wouldn't love it. But a hidden fee for my car felt unreasonable, and I won't stay here again. The hotel itself was nice and clean, and the staff were friendly.

Our room was spacious, quiet, and had a comfortable bed, with a separate sitting area, couch, desk, and mini-fridge. The pillows were too soft for me, so I used two. We paid $25 to check in early, which worked for us since we could drop our bags while waiting for the rest of our group. The main elevators were slow, and we took the stairs a couple of times. We knew there was no pool when we booked. We used Hyatt points and got a nice view of the Shell gas station behind the hotel, while another group member who booked through Expedia got a Space Needle view. It was a nice hotel, and we'd come back.

For parking, there's a lot across from the hotel by Walgreens that costs just $7 a day, if you can find a space. We were also surprised to be hurried out before checkout time: someone knocked twice before 11, which I've never had happen before. The remotes barely worked, and cable was all there was to watch. We were here for a birthday and appreciated the little gift bag with treats. But the pool information is misleading. Apparently there hasn't been a pool for years, and they say there's nothing they can do about it. It's just a fitness center.
